Fabrizio Romano confirms massive Liverpool transfer could happen
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed a massive transfer could happen.
Liverpool are heading into what will be a massive summer for the club. There’s a lot of change happening at Anfield, from the dugout right through to the dressing room, as they start a new chapter under Andoni Iraola after Arne Slot’s departure.
Iraola’s arrival feels like a pretty bold shift in direction. He’s built a strong reputation as one of the most exciting young coaches in Europe, and he’s expected to bring a few of his trusted staff with him as he looks to install the high-energy style that made him such a hit at Bournemouth.
With him in charge, Liverpool’s style of play could look quite different.
His teams are known for pressing hard, breaking quickly, and playing on the front foot. It’s the kind of football a lot of fans will feel actually suits Liverpool, especially when they’re at their best.
You can probably expect changes across the board too - training sessions, match prep, even how individual players are used might all look a bit different under the new setup. It’s the sort of refresh plenty of supporters have been calling for.
That said, the manager change is just one piece of a much bigger rebuild happening this summer at Anfield.
Liverpool’s midfield could end up being one of the biggest areas of change this summer as Iraola starts shaping the squad in his own image. While most of the attention has been on other parts of the team, the middle of the pitch is quietly becoming a key area that might need real work.
There’s already some uncertainty around both Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones. Jones is heading into the final year of his contract, and with talks not really progressing yet, Liverpool could soon be faced with a decision if a decent offer comes in.
Mac Allister’s situation is a bit more complicated. He’s still one of Liverpool’s most technically gifted and intelligent midfielders, but there are growing doubts about whether he fully suits the high-tempo, high-intensity demands Iraola is likely to bring in.
With his contract now moving into its last two years, Liverpool are reaching an important crossroads. They’ve usually been pretty strict about not letting valuable players drift too close to expiry without either tying them down or cashing in at the right time.
To make things even trickier, there’s reported interest from clubs like Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid. If Liverpool were ever going to consider a sale, this summer might be the moment to get maximum value before his price starts to drop later in his deal.
And it looks like there is a genuine chance this is a move that could actually happen.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are open to selling Mac Allister and there are several clubs interested in him.
"There are some clubs starting to look at the situation of Alexis Mac Allister at Liverpool," Romano said on his podcast.
"His situation could be interesting this summer in case of good proposals for Liverpool. For the player, I wouldn't exclude changes in midfield for him.
"This doesn't mean Mac Allister is 100% leaving, it doesn't mean he's out of Liverpool's project. I'm not saying this. I'm saying that in case of a good proposal on the club and player side, the situation of Mac Allister could eventually develop during the summer transfer window."
There's no denying this would be a massive deal for Liverpool. They will be looking to get a huge fee for Mac Allister considering how much some of the other midfielders are priced in the current market.
It will also be huge because they will letting a player go in Mac Allister who was instrumental for Liverpool's success over the last few seasons.
You can see the logic behind selling Mac Allister to get a big fee for him, but it will also be emotional to say goodbye to him. This is a transfer situation to keep a close eye on.
