Liverpool need a new target after Yan Diomande said no. Fabrizio Romano confirms who the Reds have their eyes on.

Liverpool are after a winger this summer. There's no getting around that as the Reds lack production from wide areas and then lost Mohamed Salah.

Their top target? Yan Diomande. Liverpool actually made that public, with reports all over the place saying they'd gone all-in on the Ivorian and were pushing forward on a move.

Unfortunately, Diomande wasn't willing to reciprocate that interest. He wants to play for Paris Saint-Germain instead (BBC), and Liverpool are left looking at other options.

Of which there really aren't many. It's a terrible problem to have as the market for wingers right now, particularly on the right, is genuinely shocking.

You've got a group of extraordinary talents at top clubs, then a massive drop-off to young unproven players. Liverpool, for instance, may find themselves pushing to sign Yankuba Minteh - a 21-year-old with fewer goals and assists than Salah's sub-par final season.

But maybe there's another option here. Liverpool may decide to go for one of those 'extraordinary talents' and pay a small fortune for it.

Fabrizio Romano says they're actually 'very keen' to do just that, namely with Bradley Barcola. Barcola isn't a guaranteed starter for PSG but feels he should be - a situation that will only get worse if Diomande heads there.

He's up for sale but at an enormous price, though it seems Liverpool would be willing to pay it if the player is also willing to join. This could be another record-breaking move from the Reds, then, and one that can be taken as a statement of intent.

Whether Barcola is actually worth that money is another matter, however. But he appears to be the post-Diomande plan.
