Andoni Iraola has heralded a new era with his arrival. Julian Ward is working above him as a sporting director.

And then there's this new look squad. Liverpool's old core are long gone. Mo Salah and Andy Robertson who were the last few remnants of it, departed over the course of the summer.

Virgil van Dijk and Alisson will depart soon, too. Their contracts expire at the end of the season.

Instead, there are young players, and future superstars hoping to prove themselves.

The next steps for Julian Ward as Liverpool sporting director

Ward doesn't have an easy task at Liverpool. He's got a lot of work to do in terms of fixing the squad he inherited from Richard Hughes.

The next steps for Ward will be to find balance in the team. Hughes brought in a lot of exciting young players. Some of those players could become the best in the world in their position one day.

But Ward and Iraola now need to figure out the best way to put this team together and what's missing in the team as well.

There are naturally obvious gaps in the squad. It's why Liverpool are not performing as well as some will have expected them to.

Over time though, Iraola has shown he has the potential and the know-how to make this work. He could easily become the perfect successor to Jurgen Klopp's throne.

Fabrizio Romano confirms Liverpool want Lamine Camara

Undoubtedly, the biggest priority for the Reds will be to sign a midfielder. And not just any kind of midfielder but someone who is capable of holding their position and being a bit more defensive minded.

Liverpool are missing a profile that is similar to what Fabinho brought to the team.

One player who has been heavily linked is Lamine Camara. The former African Young Player of the Year, plays for the same team Fabinho joined Liverpool from AS Monaco.

He is very defensive minded and he is also composed on the ball. And now Fabrizio Romano himself has confirmed Liverpool's interest.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, he revealed Liverpool have been following Camara for a long time.

“So, Liverpool are following Lamine Camara. They have been tracking him for a long time. There have been some calls regarding Alex Scott, and Liverpool have also been tracking Lamine Camara."

Let's hope in 2027, Ward can get a deal in place for the brilliant midfielder.
