Fabrizio Romano confirms coach's new club just weeks after Liverpool exit
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed one former Liverpool coach's new club. It comes just weeks after his exit.
It's all change at Liverpool as they've moved on from the previous coaching regime. Arne Slot and his group are out, with Andoni Iraola stepping in with his own people.
It was something of a shock. Not the reasons for the dismissal, as much as Liverpool actually going through with it - the understanding for many was that they'd persist for at least the start of the new season.
But Slot is gone and we're now waiting to see where he ends up. There have been links to clubs, with AC Milan reportedly courting him but they've now hired Ruben Amorim.
There was also a suggestion of Feyenoord wanting to re-hire Slot after parting ways with Robin van Persie. We now have confirmed that won't happen, though the club will feel they've got the next best thing.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Giovanni van Bronckhorst will take over at Feyenoord. The Dutchman was on Slot's coaching staff last season but left with his compatriot's exit.
His assistant is another ex-Slot man. Sipke Hulshoff spent two years at Liverpool but left in the last few weeks. He'll join Van Bronckhorst.
Van Bronckhorst is no stranger to Feyenoord, of course. He's a club legend there, having enjoyed two spells as a player before coaching them for a few years - a time that brought the Eredivisie title.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst: Situation Summary
Besiktas Career and Performance
As of 15 June 2026, Giovanni van Bronckhorst is the 51-year-old manager of Turkish Süper Lig giants Beşiktaş JK. Appointed in June 2024, the Dutch tactician enjoyed a stellar 2024/25 debut season, lifting the Turkish Cup and the Turkish Super Cup. However, the subsequent 2025/26 campaign proved much more challenging. Despite managing 48 games across all competitions, a string of inconsistent domestic results ultimately saw Beşiktaş miss out on the league title. Nevertheless, the club's board chose to maintain stability, retaining his services as they transition into the summer transfer window to rebuild the squad.
International Status and World Cup Involvement
As a former captain who led the Netherlands to the 2010 World Cup final, Van Bronckhorst is not involved in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. He remains entirely focused on his club duties in Istanbul, planning pre-season training while closely monitoring tournament talent for potential summer signings.
