Deadline confirmed for Yan Diomande's Liverpool transfer

Yan Diomande is very clearly Liverpool's number one target this summer.

The Ivorian has been linked with an Anfield switch for as long as many can remember.

He can play on either wing and, despite being just 19 years old, he's arguably been one of the Bundesliga's best wingers this term.

This form has led to several massive clubs from around the world including Liverpool, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain all wanting to prise him away from the Red Bull Arena.

Los Blancos have already made it clear that they have the money to sign him and, even though Liverpool are the front-runners, it doesn't feel like they'll pay over the odds for him.

Or that is, if a fresh update from Ben Jacobs is to be believed.

Liverpool don't expect the Yan Diomande saga to go on until August

Last summer, the transfer of Alexander Isak dragged on massively.

The Sweden international was Liverpool's priority target despite the club having only just signed Hugo Ekitike.

And, although the deal could have been done smoothly, it dragged on until the very last day of the window which meant that the striker wasn't even fit enough to play for his new club when he joined.

This lack of fitness carried on throughout the season with Isak only scoring four goals across all competitions.

Richard Hughes clearly doesn't want to repeat the same mistake again as, Jacobs, while speaking to Redmen TV said that the Anfield outfit want the deal to be completed before August even comes around.

"Yan Diamonde is Liverpool's priority but it's not a hill they're going to die on in the sense that, like with Alexander Isak, it was a transfer that dragged on all summer, whereas with this, Liverpool want a little bit more clarity earlier," he said.

"That's not to say that there aren't parallels and I think the biggest one is if Liverpool get encouragement, they'll bid again and quickly.

"And if they don't, they're prepared to move on to other targets. So, the pursuit is ongoing but my anticipation is this is not going to run into August."

Liverpool have seemingly learnt from their mistakes

Since Liverpool are likely to welcome a lot of new faces through the Anfield doors this summer, it's clear that they want to get deals over and done with quickly.

The best example of this is Victor Munoz. Rumours had only just started emerging about the Reds' interest in the Spaniard and, the next day, he was a Liverpool player.

This is how the Reds used to do things back in the day and, by doing this, they made some of their best signings ever.

If the Reds are going to spend over €100 million on Diomande, they need to get him in as soon as possible to get him adjusted to life as a Liverpool player because, if they don't do that, they'll be on the back foot again and could end up even worse off than they are now.

Here's hoping that Liverpool's next bid, if they make one, is enough to satisfy Leipzig this summer.
