Real Madrid and Liverpool have been rivals during the last couple of transfer windows.

And, in fairness, Los Blancos have got the better of the Anfield outfit as they've signed two of their players for nothing and signed one of their main centre-back targets last summer.

Both clubs are massive in their own way but recently, Liverpool have been the ones on the up as they have managed to win a Champions League and the Premier League more recently than the La Liga outfit.

However, since both clubs are gearing themselves up to have massive transfer windows, they're bound to clash heads at some point.

And, unfortunately for Liverpool, the clash of the two European giants could end up being for the Reds' highest priority target.

Yan Diomande now wants to join Real Madrid

It goes without saying that Yan Diomande is the Reds' number one priority this summer.

The attacker has been linked with a Liverpool switch for as long as many can remember with Liverpool being the ones leading the race from day one.

If RB Leipzig didn't manage to qualify for the Champions League then they'd have probably already sold Diomande to the Anfield outfit.

But, since they did and they know how good he can be, they're sticking firmly to their price tag with the 2026 World Cup only increasing his value.

And now, a fresh report from El Debate has stated that Diomande now wants to join Real Madrid, rather than Liverpool.

"The president of Real Madrid wants to make a major signing after winning the elections. He's always done so after winning an election," they wrote.

"He's won every one this century. And he wants to seal the victory with a high-profile signing that will appeal to the Madrid faithful. A striker.

"Michael Olise is the request Florentino Pérez hears from all the fans, wherever he goes. That option remains open and will depend on an official offer being presented to Bayern Munich . But Real Madrid has another ace up its sleeve: Yan Diomandé.

"A player who joined Leipzig a year ago from Leganés has, in this short time, shone in the Bundesliga, earning the title of breakthrough player and going from the €20 million the Germans paid Leganés to over €100 million today.

"Diomandé made his debut for the southern Madrid team in that hard-fought 3-2 victory for Real Madrid at Butarque. The young African has developed in La Liga and is a self-confessed Real Madrid fan.

"The club knows it. It's a done deal. The youngster is shining at the World Cup and wants to come to Real Madrid."

Liverpool must decide what their next plan of action is going to be

Liverpool may not have messed around when they signed Victor Munoz but, with Diomande, it feels like the saga has dragged on for way too long.

So, it's hardly surprising to see another massive club enter the race for the Ivorian, especially since he's statistically one of the best-performing wingers in the world.

The fee Leipzig are demanding for him is the main stumbling block but, since Real bid €150 million for Michael Olise, they clearly have the funds to spend.

This begs the question, what will Liverpool do next?

Most of the other wingers that the Reds have been linked with are left-wingers, the only other right-winger is Yankuba Minteh.

So, unless Munoz is expected to play there or Andoni Iraola is wanting to keep Federico Chiesa, it feels like a massive amount of change could be afoot.

Here's hoping that the Reds have more than one back-up plan, otherwise, they could find themselves on the backfoot.
