Liverpool are the favourites to trigger a release clause in the coming hours. A surprise signing looks close.

Liverpool don’t have long left to seal the rest of their deals - both incoming and outgoing. Just about everything appears to have held them up across the summer and it’s now down to the last week with deep holes on the squad.

They still haven’t replaced Mohamed Salah, for one. Liverpool were light on the wings last season anyway and while Victor Munoz has come in, he’s not going to be enough to replace the Egyptian and move the team on.

But another issue popped up this week. Curtis Jones left for Inter, meaning Liverpool are down a midfielder - one who played thousands of minutes there. That’s a pretty glaring hole in the squad.

Liverpool, though, seem to be fixing it. El Pais in Colombia reports that teenage midfielder Matias Orozco is set to leave this week as a Premier League club triggers his release clause.

The 18-year-old is a sensation in midfield and the report mentions two clubs as fronting the queue: Liverpool and Brentford. However, it seems the Reds are now overwhelming favourites.

Journalist Mariano Olsen claims a club is about to trigger that clause on Sunday. He’s also absolutely adamant in the comments that it is not Brentford.

It leaves Liverpool as massive favourites to be that club. Orozco, who could eventually qualify as homegrown if he moved this summer, may well be the pick to replace Jones in midfield and hold down a long-term midfield role.

The Colombian exploded onto the scene last season, earning himself nearly 30 matches across the campaign despite only turning 18 last December. A huge prospect, then - and one who may be fulfilling his potential at Liverpool.
