Blockbuster: Liverpool star positioned to follow Cody Gakpo to Man City

Manchester City are considering two Liverpool stars in the final days of the transfer window. Cody Gakpo isn't the only one.

Liverpool are open to selling players ahead of the transfer window's close next week. The Reds have a lot of business to get through to get their squad ready and moving stars on is a part of that.

For one, we fully expect Cody Gakpo to leave in the wake of Bradley Barcola joining Liverpool. The Dutchman has essentially lost his position ahead of the season and it's understood that Tottenham Hotspur are keen on him.

Anfield Watch understands that Liverpool set an asking price of around £70m as a result. We'll see if Spurs pay it.

Because, after all, they're not the only Premier League club interested. Manchester City are also looking at Gakpo and Gianluca Di Marzio claims they could put a bid in this weekend.

But that might not be the maddest part of it. City also want Alexis Mac Allister, or at least have him on their shortlist. It's apparently as a backup option if Enzo Fernandez proves too difficult to sign.

Mac Allister is thus positioned to follow Gakpo there if things go a certain way. We imagine Liverpool would entertain the idea of a sale, for a massive price, as the Argentine had a difficult season and isn't in contract talks to renew his deal.

That deal will expire in 2028, meaning Mac Allister's price drops dramatically next year. While it's difficult to accept Liverpool weakening their midfield even further, they might view it as an opportunity to do an overhaul.

But this late in the window? That is a bit mad. They also can't work on the basis that City will bid for Mac Allister as Enzo remains their no.1 choice.

It's a waiting game, then. Liverpool could conceivably sell two players to City in the coming days, which would be arguably the biggest blockbuster of the entire window.

There's a long way to go before that happens, though.
