Alexander Isak confirms it: Liverpool already completed their biggest deal

Liverpool's biggest deal of the summer has already been completed. Anyone watching Alexander Isak in the early hours of Monday morning could see that.

The transfer window is here and Liverpool are hard at work. They’ve got plenty to do after so many high profile exits already, while the disappointment of last season showed how necessary certain arrivals are.

But it really feels as though the biggest deal is already done. Yes, we’d love to see Yan Diomande arrive at Anfield, or Adam Wharton to boost the midfield.

Neither, though, would come close to the impact of Andoni Iraola - or rather, a change of head coach and new ideas coming into the team. The need for that was clear to anyone watching Alexander Isak in Sweden’s World Cup opener.

Isak was fantastic in the 5-1 demolition of Tunisia. He scored and assisted twice in what was his greatest performance since joining Liverpool for £130m last summer.

This is the Isak Liverpool paid all that money for. One capable of tearing defences apart and providing all sorts of dimension to the attack.

Above all, he was just massively involved in ways we haven’t seen at Anfield. Arne Slot couldn’t get the most out of Isak, even once the Swede was near his full fitness.

Iska had 35 touches in the win over Tunisia. Those came across 89 minutes. Compare that to the amount he managed the last time he played close to that many minutes: 14 against Sunderland in 86 minutes.

And that was far from a one off. 68 minutes against West Ham United, a game in which Isak scored, saw him have 13 touches. There were just 14 touches in 68 minutes against Nottingham Forest.

79 minutes against Crystal Palace brought just 18 touches. 72 minutes against Everton brought a frankly unbelievable 9 (nine) touches.

Slot could not find a way to get Isak going. Now, we’re not saying that Iraola certainly will but the early hours of Monday morning reminded everyone that a world-class player is very much still there.

A change of head coach was necessary to get that player working at Liverpool.

Alexander Isak: Situation Summary

Liverpool Career and Performance

As of 15 June 2026, Alexander Isak is a 26-year-old striker for Liverpool FC. Following a record-breaking £125 million British transfer from Newcastle United in the summer of 2025, the dynamic Swedish forward endured a heavily disrupted debut season at Anfield. A severe leg break suffered in December sidelined him for four months, restricting him to just 14 appearances and three goals across all competitions. He returned to action in April under difficult circumstances for the club, but he remains highly regarded by new manager Andoni Iraola, who views the agile No.9 as a central figure to lead Liverpool's frontline in the upcoming post-Mohamed Salah era.

International Status and World Cup Involvement

Isak is currently in North America leading the line for the Sweden national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He enjoyed a dream tournament debut in Mexico, scoring a spectacular individual goal and providing two assists to earn Player of the Match honours in a dominant 5–1 Group F victory over Tunisia.
