A glimpse into the future, Andoni Iraola-ball is finally here

Liverpool's summer transfer window is now finished.

On 2 September, the transfer window slammed shut at 12am which meant that no more new players could be brought in by the Reds.

During the summer, four new faces were added to their ranks with the hopes that each one of them would help improve Liverpool in one way or another.

And, while they all look likely to do that, unless Andoni Iraola manages to get them to play his style of football, Liverpool could end up even worse off than they ended the 2025-26 season.

However, with their team now fully confirmed until at least January, they can finally get down to business with Friday's Premier League clash against Ipswich being their first test.

It goes without saying that Bradley Barcola was Liverpool's biggest signing of the summer.

For months, the Frenchman was linked with an Anfield switch with talks never really seeming to go anywhere.

However, within the final week or so, the move finally started to progress and, even though Barcola wasn't Liverpool's first-choice, he's certainly a massive coup.

Recently, he hasn't played that often for Paris Saint-Germain due to all the speculation about his future but, now that he's a Liverpool player, he can start to be included in the Reds' plans.

And, even though Friday's Premier League clash against Ipswich may seem a little soon for that, BBC Sport have claimed that fans could see the 24-year-old feature for the Reds.

"On the basis of their first two Premier League games, there is certainly a feeling that Liverpool have left themselves short after their struggles last season," they wrote.

"Where concern lies is the lack of quality squad depth at the back and the absence of an out-and-out defensive midfielder, but Liverpool will end the window having made the second most expensive signing of the summer in France forward Barcola, who chose the Reds despite interest from other clubs including Arsenal.

"Liverpool fans could see their first glimpse of the 24-year-old on Friday when Iraola's side travel to Ipswich.

"There is a belief inside the club that the combined £364m trio of Wirtz, Isak and Barcola could become one of the most feared attacks in Europe - and Anfield needs some excitement after a below-par campaign last season."

Now that Liverpool's team for the first half of the 2026-27 season is sorted, they have no excuses to not make things work.

Most fans will want the Reds to at least put up a challenge for the Premier League title this term because, finishing fifth under Arne Slot was a massive fall from grace.

Of course, all of this pressure can't be put onto Barcola's back which means that others such as Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak will also have to step up their game.

Liverpool's attack is now one of the most expensive in the league and, aside from Manchester City and Chelsea, it's arguably the best.

All of these things point towards Liverpool being successful but, whether that actually ends up being the case or not is another question.

Here's hoping that Iraola's attack manages to prove their worth and actually gets their first win of the Premier League season over the line.
