That was to be expected. He had just inherited the team and he had agreed to have a look at everyone in order to give them a chance to impress him.

Some have stepped up to the mark - notably Ryan Gravenberch, whose stock has grown enormously this season. Others have disappointed, especially Darwin Nunez, who was unable to kick-on under the new head-coach.

This summer will see plenty of changes at Anfield as Slot moulds this team to his own liking. As the squad becomes tailor-made for him, there should also be more opportunities for young players.

In fact with Liverpool having nothing to play for during the remaining four games of the Premier League season, some young players could already be earning promotions.

Trey Nyoni is one who has been training with the first team all season who could be in line for more minutes.

But it's not just about this season. Anfield Watch have taken a look at four players who could be in line to earn a promotion and be with Liverpool during pre-season this summer.

Rio Ngumoha

He's obviously the most notable candidate who could be involved in pre-season games this summer. Ngumoha caught the eye on his first team debut earlier this season against Accrington Stanley.

The 17-year-old has continued to impress at academy level, recently scoring a brace for Liverpool's U21 side against Aston Villa.

Ngumoha is averaging close to 13 dribblers per 90 at academy level this season. He's one vs one ability makes him a really unique talent and he's starting to provide an end-product as well.

In training he has been regularly participating in first team sessions and catching the eye. So much so Anfield Watch exclusively revealed he's forced the Inside Training editors to delete footage of him catching the eye against Liverpool's senior stars in order to contain the hype around him.

There are few players of his ability and potential in European football at the moment, so it's only natural Liverpool should give him more opportunities in pre-season or perhaps even for the last four games of this campaign.

Kornel Misciur

There's going to be a bit of a reshuffle in the goalkeeping department this summer. Caoimhin Kelleher is set to depart on a permanent move. The club's current third choice, Vitezslav Jaros, is expected to go out on loan.

Giorgi Mamardashvili could be coming in, although he too could be loaned out.

That leaves the door wide open for an academy goalkeeper to be promoted into the first team, even if only as a third choice. The best candidate is Kornel Misciur.

The Polish goalkeeper has already been part of the first team squad during their trip to Brighton in the League Cup this season.

Misciur has been brilliant at U21 level all season, playing a level up despite only being 17-years-old for much of the season.

He's 18-years-old now, and with his tall frame, brilliant reflexes he's definitely ready for a promotion to the first team. He'll be hoping for some minutes at the very least in pre-season under Slot.

Owen Beck

Just like the goalkeeping department, there could be a bit of a defensive reshuffle at in the back four as well. We know Liverpool are looking at signing a left-back, which would mean Kostas Tsimikas or Andy Robertson could be on the move this summer.

Who and when Liverpool sign that left-back could determine the fate of Owen Beck, who is definitely ready for the next step in his career despite having his loan spell cut-short due to injury at Blackburn Rovers.

Out of U23 full-backs in the Championship, no on averaged more successful defensive actions than Beck (10.41 per 90 minutes) this season.

The Welsh Liverpool academy graduate has shown his defensive qualities while also playing further forward at times in a more advanced left-midfielder role.

He's a brilliant overlapping full-back and at 22-years-old he's ready for that promotion to the first team. He's almost guaranteed to be given a look by Slot in pre-season.

Josh Sonni-Lambie

If anyone deserves a promotion from the U18 side this season, it's Sonni-Lambie. Liverpool's U18 really struggled for form in the current campaign but Sonni-Lambie has stood out with his individual performances, even earning his first England youth international cap.

The 17-year-old is a proper modern day forward. He works his socks off out of possession and he's excellent in his link-up play with an eye for a goal as well.

He's a very efficient dribbler who averages four dribblers per 90 in the U18 Premier League and completes over 56% of his attempts. He has 17 goal contributions in 29 matches for Liverpool's U18 side in all competitions, which is a very decent output considering the Reds' poor form.

Still has room to grow and develop physically, Sonni-Lambie's technical qualities make him ready to be given a chance at a higher level.

With Slot still searching for his perfect no.9 option, Sonni-Lambie could get a look-in during pre-season. He's definitely one to keep a close eye on.
