It's official, Liverpool have signed a new right-back

Liverpool finally have a new right-back, it's now official.

Despite an obvious void at right-back, Liverpool’s former sporting director Richard Hughes opted against addressing the position during the summer transfer window.

Instead, the Reds appear set to solve the problem internally, with Conor Bradley viewed as the long-term answer. The Northern Irishman is one of the few remaining homegrown players in the squad and has already shown he has the ability to become an excellent defender.

The major concern, however, is his injury record. Bradley’s career has been repeatedly disrupted by fitness problems, with his latest setback by far the most serious. His recovery is expected to take more than a year, leaving Liverpool without their preferred option for a significant period.

Andoni Iraola confirmed that Bradley remains a long way from returning to action.

Why Liverpool still haven't replaced Trent

It’s quite remarkable that more than 12 months after Trent Alexander-Arnold left Liverpool, the club still find themselves in exactly the same position.

Three transfer windows have now passed, yet the Reds are still no closer to finding a genuine replacement for the former No.66. Once again, that has led to discussions about Dominik Szoboszlai potentially filling in at right-back.

After the opening games under Andoni Iraola, coupled with Jeremie Frimpong’s struggles to make an impact, the Hungarian has emerged as a serious candidate for the position.

The problem is that Liverpool handed Szoboszlai a long-term contract with the expectation that he would play primarily in central midfield. That plan could now be disrupted, simply because the Reds may have no other realistic option.

Liverpool have a new right-back

Well thankfully, it looks like Szoboszlai won't have to be used in that right-back position a lot this season.

Hughes did at least bring in somewhat of a fix with the signing of Ronald Araujo. Many have seen Araujo as the replacement for Konate. Someone who can provide a bit more cover in the centre-back position.

However, actually it seems like he has become Liverpool's new right-back.

His performance in the position against Ipswich earned him well deserved plaudits, with the Uruguayan winning the most duels (9) on the pitch and helping Liverpool to their first clean-sheet of the season.

Many won't have seen him as the Reds' new right-back when he arrived, but it's now official that is what he's going to have to become - especially when Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni return from injury.
