Liverpool promote a record-breaking wonderkid to their first-team.

The Reds squad isn't in the greatest shape after the conclusion of the transfer window. Andoni Iraola will have wanted more additions to bolster his team.

However, ultimately the club's recruitment team decided there were no viable options on the market. Secondly, the options that were available were deemed to expensive.

Liverpool's strategy has always been to explore long-term arrivals. The Reds do not do short-term deals. It's very rare that they agree to a stop-gap option.

They already had to make a concession with Ronald Araujo's arrival, who comes on loan from Barcelona. But if he proves himself he could still be a valuable addition.

How Liverpool's squad has been assembled after the window

With further sales of homegrown talent and loan departures that saw Harvey Elliott, Stefan Bajcetic and Curtis Jones move onto pastures new, Liverpool have had to be smart in their squad registrations for the following campaign.

Players like Isaac Mabaya, who last played a game for the senior side in January 2025 have been included in the club's Premier League and Champions League squad.

Luke Chambers is another one who has earned the promotion from Iraola, while the likes of Wataru Endo and Federico Chiesa have been cruelly left out of the Champions League squad, with injured players like Hugo Ekitike and Conor Bradley being selected ahead of them.

These were some tough calls but they make sense given the context. Iraola will also be able to call-upon U21 players who did not need to be registered.

Including one who has very much been promoted over the course of the summer.

Lewis Koumas earns promotion

The Welsh forward first broke onto the scene when he scored on his senior debut against Southampton back in 2024 aged just 18-years-old.

Alongside Jayden Danns, they broke a record with the duo both scoring being the first time Liverpool had two players aged 18 or younger score in the same match in the club's history.

Koumas has since been out on several loans but he came back looking fit and sharp this summer.

The youngster netted in Iraola's first ever game in charge of the Reds in pre-season and he made his Premier League debut.

Koumas is now very much recognised as a first-team player. Liverpool decided not to bolster their attack further after Bradley Barcola's arrival and not to loan the Welshman.

He could play a key role in the coming months ahead.
