What! Liverpool offer crazy €75m to sign surprise African star

Liverpool are getting ready to offer a crazy fee to sign a surprise African star.

The final few days of the transfer window could go one of two ways for Liverpool fans.

They could be some of the most exciting deadline-day drama we've seen in years, with Richard Hughes finally getting to work and addressing the obvious weaknesses in Andoni Iraola's squad.

Or, they could be the perfect ending to what has been a pretty dull window overall.

At this point, it really comes down to what Hughes decides to do.

Liverpool have some very obvious gaps in the squad. They need more attacking depth, they need another midfielder and there are still questions over whether they have enough quality in certain areas. Hughes now has a choice: go all in and try to fix those problems, or decide that the current squad is good enough and leave things until January.

What happens with the outgoings could be just as important.

Cody Gakpo's future is one of the biggest questions hanging over the club right now. There is interest from both Manchester City and Tottenham, and Liverpool have a huge decision to make. Do they cash in if a big offer arrives, or do they keep Gakpo because they simply cannot afford to lose another attacking option?

Then there's Alexis Mac Allister.

His situation is another one Liverpool will have to carefully consider, particularly given the lack of depth in midfield. Losing another established player could leave Iraola with an even smaller group to work with.

And then there are the fringe players.

Wataru Endo is probably the clearest example. If he is unlikely to play regularly and is taking up a valuable non-homegrown squad place, does it really make sense to keep him?

These are the decisions Hughes now has to make.

The next few days could define Liverpool's window - and potentially set the tone for the entire season.

Then there are the youngsters Liverpool need to make decisions on, with Lewis Koumas, Luke Chambers and James McConnell all facing uncertain futures.

Should the club send them out on loan so they can play regularly and continue their development? Or does it make more sense to keep them around because Liverpool simply don't have enough homegrown options in the squad?

That is the difficult balance Liverpool have to find.

Andoni Iraola will need depth throughout the season, particularly with the demands of competing on multiple fronts. But keeping young players around just to fill squad places is not necessarily the best thing for their development either.

Whatever Liverpool decide could also have a direct impact on what happens in the transfer market.

If Cody Gakpo leaves, for example, the Reds will almost certainly need to bring in another attacker. If he stays, that could change the situation completely.

With only a few days left, Liverpool's options are becoming increasingly limited.

It looks like their final choice is going to be Ismaila Sarr.

It's quite an underwhelming and in all fairness a very surprise choice. Sarr is 28-years-old. He isn't the typical profile that Liverpool would go for.

What's even more surprising is that according to journalist Lassana Camara Liverpool are going to bid a huge sum for him.

Camara has claimed on X that the Reds are preparing a €75m to €80m proposal in order to sign Sarr.

That would be a huge fee for the African attacker who in all fairness doesn't really provide Liverpool with too much of an alternative profile compared to what they already have.

To offer a fee in the region of €75m is simply crazy for a player of Sarr's profile.
