VAR decision STEALS iconic Alexander-Arnold Gerrard tribute at Old Trafford

Trent Alexander-Arnold looked to have spoiled Manchester United's Sunday afternoon with an early goal at Old Trafford, but his finish and iconic follow-up was sadly stolen by VAR.

The full-back smashed the ball home and was awarded a goal after the referee's watch indicated the ball had crossed the line before the video assistant intervened and ruled the effort out for an offside in the build-up.

Mohamed Salah had got the slightest of touches on the ball before Alexander-Arnold's shot and unfortunately the Egyptian attacker was ahead of the last defender when he touched it.

That meant that the goal was ruled out - and Alexander-Arnold's hilarious Steven Gerrard tribute went to waste.

After the goal was initially awarded, Alexander-Arnold kissed the camera just as Gerrard had done after scoring at Old Trafford - one of the best trolling moments by a Reds player at United's home ground.

Fans on X, formerly known as Twitter, were quick to notice the tribute to the Liverpool legend, and just as quick to swear at VAR for the decision to rule out both goal and celebration.
