Michael Edwards has made contact to sign an Argentine star in a genius move.

Jeremy Jacquet looks set to be the first of several new arrivals at Liverpool this summer in the centre-back department.

The club have already agreed a deal for the young defender to join in July, with the expectation that he will provide valuable depth in a position where options are currently thin.

However, Liverpool’s plans for the centre-back role do not stop there, and further additions are firmly on the agenda as part of a wider defensive reshaping.

Ifeanyi Ndukwe is also joining the club this summer and there will be more experience on the way too.

Much of thie activity will be driven by growing uncertainty around several of the club’s existing defenders. Ibrahima Konate is approaching the final stages of his contract, and with no extension agreed, the possibility of a departure is becoming increasingly real with every passing day.

At the same time, Joe Gomez continues to attract interest from elsewhere. He came close to securing a move to AC Milan last summer, and with his current deal running until 2027, Liverpool could be tempted to sell while his market value remains high.

If they both leave, Jacquet’s arrival will just the beginning, but even if they don't, the Reds already have their sights set on at least one more signing.

Michael Edwards will know first hand that not having enough depth in the defensive department can really hurt a team's season.

Jacquet is an excellent player but he is young and he will be adjusting during his first few months in England. At the same time, Giovanni Leoni will still be coming back from his injury.

Joe Gomez is simply unreliable with his fitness and while Ndukwe and Mor Talla Ndiaye are both very talented defenders, they cannot be relied upon as back-ups.

Liverpool need a bit more experience in that centre-back department. Someone who can confidently come in and play instead of Virgil van Dijk or Konate (if he stays).

And Edwards it looks like is lining up a genius deal.

According to Matteo Moretto, Liverpool are showing 'a lot of interest' in Marcos Senesi recently, with whom contact has already been made by the Reds.

Moretto claims that there will be 'new' contacts with Senesi soon.

Edwards' sporting director, Richard Hughes has already signed Senesi in the past when he was working at Bournemouth. Arne Slot also knows Senesi will from his time at Feyenoord.

With the Argentine international's contract expiring, he's going to be available on a free transfer.

By the time summer arrives, he’ll be 29 - an age profile Liverpool don’t typically prioritise given their long-term planning.

But there are exceptions to every rule. Players like James Milner and Wataru Endo have shown that sometimes experience can be just as valuable as potential.

If Liverpool are looking to strengthen their depth, particularly with the possible departures of Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez, bringing in someone like Senesi makes a lot of sense. He offers reliability, maturity, and a wealth of experience.

Senesi is a fantastic player as well. Especially with his ability to play out from the back. He has averaged the most progressive passes (14.89 per 90 minutes) in the entire Premier League this season.

Signing a player of his ability and experience on a free transfer. This is Edwards doing what he does best yet again.
