Liverpool have done something amazing. They've got the next Sergio Busquets.

It was a sad day for football. Inter Miami's victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps almost exactly a year ago signalled the end of Busquet's career in the game.

What a career it had been. The Spaniard has won pretty much everything and established himself as one of the best holding midfielders to have ever played the sport.

At the height of his powers, playing in that incredible Barcelona team under Pep Guardiola with Xavi and Iniesta, Busquets was unplayable.

He could read the game like no other, and he also had this ability to stay calm under pressure. He was able to command the middle of the park. Mark smart passes and instigate attacks from deep.

Liverpool's need for a midfield metronome

The Reds could very much do with a player of Busquet's ilk. For a long while now, Liverpool have been desperate to have a midfield metronome.

Not since Fabinho have the Reds had a player who is capable of sitting deep in midfield and controlling the middle of the park.

They have tried to bring in players of that kind but to no avail.

First it was Aurelien Tchouameni. He went to Real Madrid. Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia were also pursued. But they left to join Chelsea in what was a bitter blow.

Martin Zubimendi, of course, ended up at Arsenal. This summer, Liverpool tried to sign Lamine Camara, but he stayed at Monaco. Perhaps the Reds will explore a move for him in January.

Liverpool have found the new Busquets

Or perhaps they won't. Liverpool's midfield has become a lot stronger since the summer and that is thanks to the emergence of Trey Nyoni.

The teenage midfielder who has been on the club's books for a few years now has really started to establish himself as an elite ball-playing metronome.

Liverpool look a lot more in control when Nyoni is on the pitch pulling the strings and is able to find the right passes in order to break lines.

There's a lot of Busquets qualities to him, and he's probably the closest thing to the former Barcelona midfielder playing football right now.

He proved that against Arsenal. And he is also proving it in the Champions League. Opta recently revealed that Nyoni has completed the most passes under high-intensity pressure (92%) out of any midfielder in the Champions League to have attempted more than 100 passes this season.

That is a seriously impressive feat, and once again Busquets esque.
