This could be massive, door open for Liverpool x Real Madrid swap deal
Liverpool appear to have the door open for a massive swap deal with Real Madrid. This would be simply incredible.
Liverpool's midfield looks ripe for a bit of a rebuild. It would come around four years since the last one, when Jurgen Klopp and Jorg Schmadtke made dramatic changes in 2023.
That rebuild had fantastic results, of course, as Liverpool would win the Premier League title in 2025. Though, they haven't really touched the group since, with Curtis Jones even leaving this summer without a replacement.
We fully expect Liverpool to make changes to their midfield in 2027, then. But it's that group from 2023 that has the spotlight on them as both Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai, signed that year, have been given big new contracts within the last 8 months.
Alexis Mac Allister, who also arrived that summer, has not been. Now Sky Sports claim he could leave and that it's a 'concrete possibility' that he does so.
Notably, a different Sky Sports report suggests that Real Madrid are very high on Mac Allister. Enough so that they'll likely pursue a deal next year. That unquestionably opens a new door for Liverpool.
Alexis Mac Allister swap deal
Real Madrid want a new midfielder but Real Madrid already have plenty of midfielders. They're almost certainly selling at least one player before they buy someone new and that presents an opportunity.
We're massive fans of Eduardo Camavinga, who was close to leaving Los Blancos in the summer. Our Value Adder model rates him as one of the best defensive midfielders in European football - someone who doesn't get the plaudits he deserves because compatriot Aurelien Tchouameni is probably even better and plays in the same team.
But Liverpool could really, really use Camavinga. Real Madrid freshening up their options provides a wonderful chance to sign him, too, and we think this is the way forward if the Reds are serious about a new midfielder.
Now, we'd rather not lose Mac Allister. He's probably been Liverpool's best midfielder this season, after all, and we'd prefer him to stay. But the new contracts for Gravenberch and Szoboszlai make that difficult - neither is moving on any time soon.
So if Mac Allister does have to go, Camavinga joining would soften the blow massively. He's an elite-level footballer who should get a lot more game time that he currently does.
Liverpool could turn him in a genuine superstar. A swap deal for Mac Allister, then, feels like a way to just about keep everyone happy.
