Superb midfielder jets in for Liverpool medical
Liverpool are on the brink of signing a fantastic playmaker as he jets in for his medical.
Liverpool are about to sign a Colombian playmaker. It potentially marks their second signing of the summer after Victor Munoz - though, it's unclear whether he'll immediately join the Reds.
Samuel Martinez is the player in question. It was first reported back in May that Liverpool were on the brink of agreeing a deal for the teenager, something that came completely out of the blue.
Martinez is still only 17 and any move would see him remain with his club, Atletico Nacional, at least temporarily.
But he's one of the most exciting prospects coming out of Colombia right now and Liverpool are eager to sign him. It now seems that a deal is virtually complete as Martinez is currently jetting in to the UK in order to complete a medical.
That's according to Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra, who initially reported on the potential deal back in May.
"At this hour, Samuel Martínez (17) is travelling to the United Kingdom along with his family and his agent, Daniel Neumüller, to undergo medical exams with Liverpool," he writes on Twitter.
"Historic transfer for the Colombian midfielder."
This is something of a coup for Liverpool, who never sign the top talents out of South America. They've tried and failed for years, with the likes of Endrick, Vinicius Jr, Franco Mastantuono and Rodryog all going elsewhere (Real Madrid in all those cases, quite ridiculously).
But Martinez is set to be a Red. It'll be interesting to see how Liverpool handle his development but the dream here is that he can jump into the first-team as soon as he's able to move to the UK at 18.
High hopes for this one, then.
