Richard Hughes handed massive boost in chase for 'phenomenal' Premier League star
Liverpool are probably going to have an almost entirely new-look team by the start of the 2026-27 season.
The Anfield outfit have fallen well below expectations this term with hardly any of their players putting in decent performances.
With this in mind, it's clear that several areas of the Reds' squad need upgrading with at least one or two players being linked with every position among Arne Slot's ranks.
It's clear that the Anfield outfit are casting their net far and wide to try and improve their chances of adding some silverware to their trophy cabinet this term.
And now, Richard Hughes has been handed a massive boost in his pursuit for one of his transfer targets.
Marcos Senesi wants to stay in the Premier League next season
Jeremy Jacquet may be about to join Liverpool in the summer but that doesn't mean that the Anfield outfit can't explore new defensive options.
Slot's defence has been one of his main problem areas this term with their mistakes often costing his team valuable points.
Of course, there have been times when they've saved Liverpool's bacon but, more often than not, players such as Jeremie Frimpong and Ibrahima Konate have let their team down.
That's why it's hardly surprising to see several new defenders still being linked with an Anfield switch.
Marcos Senesi is one of the main players to have been linked with a Liverpool move over the last few weeks and, even though other clubs have also entered the frame, the Reds have been handed a massive boost in their pursuit of the centre-back.
"Marcos Senesi says no to Juventus," Mirko Di Natale wrote via his personal X account.
"Offer from the Bianconeri rejected, the defender chooses to stay in the Premier League."
Marcos Senesi would be a perfect signing for Liverpool
Even though Senesi may not be the flashiest centre-back in the world, his Premier League experience and his ability to control a back line is exactly what Liverpool need.
The Argentinian lost two of his defensive partners in the 2025-26 summer transfer window but he's still managed to lead Bournemouth to sixth place with the Cherries only conceding 52 goals this term.
Senesi's performances over the last couple of years have been a sight to behold with former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy even dubbing the 28-year-old a "phenomenal" player.
His contract is due to expire in June 2026 which means that, if the Reds did end up choosing to sign him, he'd cost them nothing which would allow them to spend their transfer war chest on other areas of their squad.
He'd also be able to help Virgil van Dijk mentor youngsters such as Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni which could be worth it's weight in gold.
Obviously, other clubs will also want to sign him but, as long as Liverpool stand strong and put in a good offer for the centre-back, there's no reason why he wouldn't want to join them.
That is, especially if Konate chooses against extending his contract this summer.
