It's not over: Liverpool won't give up on deal for Marcos Senesi

Last week it was claimed that Tottenham had reached an agreement to sign Marcos Senesi.

The 28-year-old is due to leave Bournemouth this summer when his contract expires - having signed for the Cherries back in 2022.

The Argentina centre-back left Arne Slot’s Feyenoord for Bournemouth - whose technical director at the time was Richard Hughes.

With Hughes and Slot now in tandem at Liverpool the aggressive left-footer has been mooted as a potential transfer target.

The Premier League champions need cover and competition at centre-back - while a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk will be uppermost in the club’s thoughts.

Now it’s been claimed in Caught Offside that Senesi IS a target for Liverpool - and no such deal has been agreed with Spurs.

No deal reached with Spurs

The crisis-torn London club cannot be sure of their Premier League status right now and as such will be leaving recruitment decisions until the end of the season.

That leaves the pathway clear for a move to Merseyside - with other sides dropping out of the race for Senesi.

“It may be that Senesi is leaning towards Spurs if they stay up, but my understanding is that other clubs like Liverpool remain in the race for his signature,” the report reads.

“The Reds are exploring the centre-backs market as they’re really keen to add depth even if Ibrahima Konate stays and signs a new contract.

“I previously mentioned the likes of Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, and Chelsea also being keen on Senesi, but it now seems their interest has cooled. Meanwhile, the player is understood to have rejected offers from Juventus and Borussia Dortmund as they didn’t meet his demands.”

Marcos Senesi: Situation summary

Marcos Senesi has evolved into Bournemouth’s defensive leader, profiling as an ultra‑aggressive left-sided centre-back who defends the box but also drives their build-up.

Data and scouting pieces highlight him as one of 2025‑26’s big winners: high volumes of clearances, blocks and duels, alongside progressive and “dangerous” passing from the back, have underpinned Bournemouth’s ability to survive big-money sales around him.

Stylistically, he’s a front‑foot defender who steps in, competes aggressively in the air and takes pride in the “ugly bits”, while his left foot allows Iraola’s side to play out under pressure and hit early diagonals.

He’s also worn the armband and pushed himself back into Argentina contention ahead of 2026.

Contractually, Senesi’s deal expires this summer and he has told Bournemouth he will not extend, making him one of Europe’s most coveted free agents, with Liverpool, Juventus, Barcelona, Spurs and Dortmund all circling.

Reports suggest an agreement in principle with Tottenham is already in place.
