What is it with Real Madrid?

They just can't seem to resist Liverpool's best players. They've done it again, following up the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold by swooping for Ibrahima Konate. To make matters worse, both walked away for nothing.

It's enough to make Liverpool supporters roll their eyes because this isn't some new trend.

Back in 2009, Real Madrid raided Anfield for Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa, taking two of Rafael Benitez's most trusted players. Before that it was Michael Owen. Before him, Steve McManaman.

At times, it feels like Madrid view Liverpool as their own personal talent pool, waiting to cherry-pick the club's biggest stars whenever the opportunity arises.

The funny thing is, it hasn't always worked out. Alonso was a huge success, and Arbeloa carved out a solid career, but Owen never came close to replicating his Liverpool form in Spain. Alexander-Arnold's spell has hardly got off to a flying start either.

So why do Liverpool players keep falling for the same move? And why do Real Madrid keep coming back to Anfield for their next marquee signing?

Maybe it's the allure of the Bernabéu. Maybe it's the prestige. Or maybe Real Madrid simply know that if they wait long enough, another Liverpool star will become available.

Either way, it's becoming an all-too-familiar story for Reds supporters.

But Liverpool's frustrations with Real Madrid don't stop in the transfer market. There's also the small matter of what has happened whenever the two sides have met on the biggest stage.

Since lifting the European Cup in Paris back in 1981, Liverpool have lost two Champions League finals to Real Madrid. Both still sting for very different reasons.

The defeat in 2018 felt like the beginning of the end for Klopp's first great side. Four years later, the loss in Paris in 2022 had the opposite feeling. It was the last chance for that incredible team to cement its legacy, only for Real Madrid to deny them again.

Liverpool have been desperate for a bit of revenge ever since. Last season's win over Madrid was satisfying, and Conor Bradley's crunching tackle quickly became a fan favourite, but it barely scratched the surface.

Real payback comes from beating them where it hurts.

Liverpool may already have done exactly that this summer by signing Victor Munoz, despite Real Madrid's interest in bringing the youngster back. The promise of regular football and the chance to work under Andoni Iraola proved more convincing.

If Munoz develops into the player many believe he can become, Real Madrid could be left wondering why they ever let him leave in the first place.

And he might not be the only player Liverpool take from the Spanish giants this summer.

That is because as Real Madrid reinforce their ranks one player is about to get the boot.

According to Real Madrid journalist Alberto Pereiro Endrick is certain to leave the Spanish capital this summer.

He tweeted: 'Endrick looks like he's about to get the boot.....👋' and when one of his followers asked whether that is an opinion, he replied:

'I've got it crystal clear.'

This is great news for Liverpool. Endrick being available or up for sale by Real Madrid gives the Reds the green light to pursue a sensational transfer.

The Brazilian is pretty much the perfect fit for Liverpool, given the fact that he can play on the right-wing and across the front three.

Endrick alongside Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz would be a brilliant window for the Reds.
