Liverpool’s midfield has been one of the biggest talking points in the Premier League so far this season.

The unit is comprised of players who have won the Premier League and Florian Wirtz, who cost a then-record £115 million, so it is understandable that expectations are high.

The Reds’ midfield has severely lacked balance under Andoni Iraola however, often struggling to control or meaningfully impact games.

Their struggles have led to plentiful suggestions that a new midfielder is needed in the winter window and Alexis Mac Allister’s ongoing contract dispute has only added fuel to that fire.

Now the Reds are being linked with a player who could solve multiple problems for them, and he is one of the most exciting prospects in the division.

Aston Villa sensation to replace Mac Allister

Several stars have been touted as the solution to Liverpool’s midfield woes, but one of the most exciting names mentioned in recent weeks is Johan Manzambi.

The 20-capped Switzerland international has quickly emerged as one of the divisions most promising young players this season, scoring twice and assisting three in five appearances for Aston Villa.

Manzambi was suggested as an ideal option for Liverpool even before he made the switch to England, but reports are now linking the Reds with a move for the midfield maestro.

The link was first reported by Swiss outlet 4-4-2.ch, who claimed that Iraola’s side are long-time admirers of the 21-year-old and that they have continued to monitor the player following his move to the West Midlands.

That report was followed up by an update from Spanish outlet Fichajes, who claim that Liverpool plan to sell Mac Allister this winter and sign Manzambi in the winter.

The World Cup winner has made his feelings on not being offered a new deal this summer very clear, and it isn’t out of the realms of possibility that he agitates for a move away come the winter if there is still no new deal on the table.

Manzambi arrived at Villa Park for a club-record fee of just over £50 million, and the Villains would almost certainly demand a sizeable profit to let their new starlet go after just six months.

Still, Manzambi is definitely a player to keep an eye on, especially if Villa continue to struggle in the league.
