Liverpool look to be moving closer to an agreement with Ibrahima Konate over a new contract.

With the Frenchman’s previous deal due to expire in summer 2026 tying Ibou down for the long term is a major boost for sporting director Richard Hughes.

And while the 26-year-old’s future was up in the air it had been suggested that Liverpool would move for a senior replacement.

One of the names that emerged on the radar was that of Pierre Kalulu - the 25-year-old France international shining for Juventus.

Given his ability - and versatility to play at right-back - Kalalu would be a useful pick-up for Arne Slot’s squad. He could perhaps fill in for Joe Gomez if club bosses decide to offload the Englishman - providing cover and competition in two positions.

Liverpool love Pierre Kalulu

And Liverpool are set to follow through on their interest in Kalulu - Konate’s new deal notwithstanding - according to a report in Caught Offside.

They will however have to beat out Manchester United for the former AC Milan man’s signature - and recruitment reports have been very positive thus far.

“Kalulu has been on the radar of Man United and Liverpool for some time now after his impressive performances in Serie A, and it could be set to lead to a move this summer,” the report reads.

“United and Liverpool have had scouts watch Kalulu play recently and the feedback has been very positive.

“United are looking at a long list of options and Kalulu is one they really like.

“We can also expect Liverpool to step up their interest, whether or not they lose Ibrahima Konate.”

Pierre Kalulu: Situation summary

Pierre Kalulu has quietly become one of Juventus’ most reliable defenders, locking down a starting role on the right side of their back line and offering cover both as a centre-back and full-back.

His 2025‑26 numbers – close to 30 appearances in all competitions with a handful of goal contributions – underline how trusted he is in big Serie A and Champions League fixtures.

On the pitch he is a front‑foot defender: quick across the ground, aggressive stepping into duels and comfortable defending large spaces when Juve push up.

His background as a full‑back shows in his ability to carry the ball out and hit progressive passes, even if the odd rash challenge or high‑profile red card has drawn scrutiny this season.

Contractually, Kalulu signed permanently from Milan in 2025 and is tied to Juventus until 2029 on around €2.5m per year, with the club already in talks over an extension to 2030 amid Premier League interest.

Both player and club are described as very happy, and Juventus’ stance is that he is not for sale.
