Liverpool need wingers. There is no doubt about the club’s transfer priority for the summer.

With Mohamed Salah leaving and Federico Chiesa also likely to be on his way out Andoni Iraola has talked up the need to sign new wide attackers.

Victor Munoz has been brought on board after Richard Hughes triggered his €40m Osasuna buyout. But the 2024/25 Premier League champions still need numbers and quality in the wide areas.

Liverpool's unsuccessful winger hunt

Fans remain hopeful of a top name such as Bradley Barcola coming into the club this summer although a deal would prove to be very expensive.

Paris Saint-Germain want around £128m for the France international and it remains to be seen whether or not the Anfield side meet those demands.

Rather than signing an inferior target we could see Rio Ngumoha move to the other side - paving the way for Cody Gakpo to compete with Munoz for a starting spot on the left.

That might well frustrate supporters who have been adamant about the need to sign a winger. But the club could well prepare a stop-gap option for the season ahead - before launching an ambitious move for Vinicius Junior in 2027.

Liverpool hold positive Vini Jr talks

That’s via a report in Defensa Central which claims Andoni Iraola’s side have worked out the numbers for an explosive free transfer next summer.

Vini Jr, 26, is out of contract in 2027 and talks between his entourage and the 15-time European champions are at a standstill.

The Brazil international wants pay parity with Kylian Mbappe and there are no indications that Los Blancos are going to get near those demands.

According to Ramon Alvarez de Mon Liverpool are among the teams to be contacted by Vini’s agents in order to scope out the market for a lucrative free transfer next summer.

Vini could move to Liverpool on a free in 2027

“The situation is fundamentally financial, as the winger's representatives are demanding that he match Kylian Mbappé's salary at the club, resulting in a net difference of several million euros between Real Madrid and Vinicius,” the report reads.

“This situation could worsen, since, according to Ramón Álvarez de Mon, Liverpool are interested in signing the Brazilian in 2027.

“Vinicius’s people, naturally, have to do their job… to find out what the position would be of other clubs that could potentially sign Vinicius, whether in 2026 or 2027.

“We’re mainly talking about Premier League teams. In those initial inquiries, there was one club that clearly responded positively to their interest in Vinicius, but the numbers worked out for 2027. That club is Liverpool.”

Mbappe is raking in around £513k per week at Madrid per Capology with Vini earning £410k per week according to the same source.

That is a little over what the Reds were paying Mohamed Salah - raising the possibility that the Egyptian King’s pay packet could be given to Vini - albeit in 2027 rather than this year.
