Liverpool could LOSE Trent Alexander-Arnold successor to Man City
Liverpool will have to move on quickly from Trent Alexander-Arnold. The 26-year-old right-back opted to run his contract down and now looks primed for a free transfer to Real Madrid this summer.
While Conor Bradley is waiting in the wings, the Reds have also been linked with several targets who could fill in at right-back. One player who could do so - and also play in several other positions - is Italian international Andrea Cambiaso.

The 25-year-old utility man is one of Juventus’s star players, featuring in both full-back positions as well as higher up as wing-back and wide midfielder.

His versatility is sure to appeal to Arne Slot, with left-back Andy Robertson also out of contract in 2026. Cambiaso therefore could be a two-for-one offer, capable of playing either side of defence.
Primarily a left-footer who plays left-back, 13-cap Cambiaso is a powerful runner with the ball at his feet and isn’t afraid to have a shot either.
However, there could be a SERIOUS complication in Liverpool’s plans to sign the Genoa youth team graduate.
Liverpool and Man City want Cambiaso
It’s been reported that Manchester City have moved into the lead for his signature. That’s according to Football Insider, which claims Pep Guardiola has got Cambiaso in mind as a permanent replacement for Kyle Walker.
“Liverpool have identified the 25-year-old as an ideal replacement for the outgoing Trent Alexander-Arnold,” a report reads.
“His age, experience both in the Champions League and for the Italian national team, and versatility to play both at right and left-back have made him a key target.
“However, Pep Guardiola‘s side are in the driving seat over the deal as things stand and have been working on the deal behind the scenes since January.”
Cambiaso "very keen" on Man City move
Cambiaso is under contract at the Juventus Stadium until 2029 and the Italian record champions were reported to be looking for ÂŁ75m back in January.
City’s attempts to sign him mid-season fell apart but they are expected back in summer.
“Cambiaso is “very keen” to join Man City after they held extensive talks with Juventus over the possibility of a deal,” the report continues.
“Eventually, talks broke down as City were not willing to meet the Italian club’s lofty asking price which stood at £75million after a £54.5million bid was rejected.
“Juventus’ asking price is now expected to drop, attracting rival interest from Liverpool, but it is unlikely Arne Slot’s side will be able to beat City to the deal.”
