The club also admire Julian Alvarez, who could be available in 2026. However, another intriguing option has emerged in the shape of an international colleague of Alvarez and Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.
Mac Allister asks Liverpool to sign Lautaro
Indeed, it’s been claimed in Argentina that Mac Allister has personally requested the Reds sign one of his international teammates - who has earned a reputation as one of the best strikers in Europe.
Lautaro Martinez, 27, is the captain of Inter Milan and signed a new contract last summer until 2029. Martinez has scored eight goals in 12 Champions League games this term - and has also netted 12 times in Serie A.
He has been Inter's top scorer for the previous two seasons running.
“Lautaro MartĂnez is in the running for a Liverpool signing,” reports El Crack Deportivo.
“His good relationship with Mac Allister could speed up the process. The former Boca Juniors and Argentinos Juniors player is a key player for the team, and has reportedly asked the board to make a move for the Inter Milan striker.”
Lautaro valued at €100m
Martinez was a World Cup winner alongside Mac Allister in 2022, and has also won two Serie A titles during his time with Inter.

It remains to be seen whether an offer tempts the Italian giants into selling Lautaro, who was involved in a high-stakes contract standoff last season before eventually renewing his deal.
It’s been suggested in the Argentine report that it could take a bid of €100m for Inter to sell.
