Liverpool have been tipped to conduct a summer transfer refit in midfield.

The outgoing Premier League champions would love to recruit a new player in the position - with the likes of Adam Wharton, Alex Scott and Khephren Thuram all linked.

But any new arrivals are likely to be linked to outgoing deals. Alexis Mac Allister - for so long linked to Real Madrid - now looks set to stay despite a lack of new contract talks.

And Curtis Jones - only under contract until 2027 - remains a target for Inter Milan, Nottingham Forest and Galatasaray.

Bajcetic is eyeing up Liverpool exit

Another player recently linked with the exit has been Stefan Bajcetic. The 21-year-old hasn’t played for Liverpool’s first team in over two years - owing to injury and loan spells elsewhere.

Following his stints at Red Bull Salzburg and Las Palmas in 2024/25 the Spain under-21 international has been suffering from several injury setbacks.

He will be fit for preseason according to various sources but will be seeking first-team football as a priority next term.

That is not on the cards at Liverpool at present with so many top midfielders ahead of Bajcetic in the pecking order.

Rayo Vallecano make contact for Bajcetic

Links to Middlesbrough and Preston have come to nothing in recent weeks although it’s now being claimed that returning to La Liga is seen as his priority.

That’s according to a report in Union Rayo - which claims Rayo Vallecano have opened talks with Bajcetic over the terms of a summer deal.

“Rayo Vallecano continues its activity in the transfer market in search of a midfielder, and one of the names that has surfaced in recent hours is Stefan Bajcetic,” the report reads.

“The Liverpool player is on the shortlist of the Madrid-based club, which is closely monitoring his situation ahead of a potential summer move, according to Ángel García.

“The Spanish under-21 international is not in the English club's plans for next season and all indications are that he will go out on loan again or even consider a permanent transfer if an offer arrives that satisfies all parties.

“His priority is to return to La Liga, where he has previously played.

“Sevilla and Elche are also monitoring the midfielder's situation and are emerging as competitors to secure his services. All three clubs are looking to capitalize on Liverpool's desire to find a club where Bajcetic can get consistent playing time.”

Bajcetic won't get his breakthrough at Liverpool

Bajcetic made the breakthrough under Jurgen Klopp as a teenager shortly after his arrival from Celta Vigo. But injuries have taken their toll on the deep-lying playmaker - who may now have to look elsewhere for opportunities.

“At the moment there are no advanced negotiations, but Rayo Vallecano have already inquired about his situation and remain attentive to any developments that may occur in the coming weeks regarding one of the most sought-after midfielders on the market for LaLiga teams,” the report reads.

Bajcetic is under contract at Anfield until 2027 - meaning that a loan deal is a remote possibility unless he inks a new deal.

Otherwise we can expect Richard Hughes to listen to offers for Bajcetic - who no doubt would a bargain transfer for any interested parties.
