Good news as defender confirms he's staying
Liverpool have lost a couple of key defenders in the offseason.
Andy Robertson left for Tottenham after Richard Hughes declined to offer the left-back a contract renewal. And of course Ibrahima Konate departed on a free for Real Madrid.
It all adds up to leave Liverpool a little bit light - and they could do with retaining as many in the squad as they can.
Tsimikas is staying
One player who is now adamant that he is staying is Kostas Tsimikas. The Greek defender, 30, moved to Liverpool in 2020 as Robertson’s understudy.
He never really threatened Robbo for his first-team place - departing for Roma on loan for the 2025/26 season. Tsimikas’s time in the Italian capital didn’t really work out and they had no intention of signing him on a permanent deal.
He returned to the AXA Training Centre quite unsure of his future - with only a year left on his deal.

But now it seems as though the Greece international has got his heart set on staying at Anfield for the season ahead under new head coach Andoni Iraola.
Asked how it felt coming back by the official club website he said: “I couldn’t wait, to be honest.
“I had a very tough and strange season last year, but I’m fully here, I trained so hard alone in the off-season.
“And during the last season, even if I didn’t have so much game time for some reasons, “I’m really here, I’m really happy to be back, really glad and I can’t wait to wear the jersey.
“For me, it’s like I never left the club. It has a very big sense in my heart always. I’m very happy even now I came back, I just feel like I never left.”

Tsimikas will be Kerkez understudy
Robbo’s departure opens up a gap in the squad for a reserve left-back. And now it looks as though Tsimikas will provide the sensible option for Iraola and Richard Hughes instead of delving into the market and spending money on a replacement.
He will know he’s behind Milos Kerkez - a £40m signing from Bournemouth last summer - but he will scrap it out for a starting berth as well as the opportunity to win a new deal.
