Liverpool could complete deal for centre-back
Liverpool’s centre-back department is destined to undergo a shakeup in the next couple of transfer windows.
The Reds’ sporting director Richard Hughes kicked off that process last summer - opting to cash in on Jarell Quansah and adding Giovanni Leoni to the ranks.

Leoni, 18, has been ruled out for up to a YEAR due to an ACL injury - meaning the club still look undermanned in the centre of defence.

Plans to add Marc Guehi on transfer deadline day went up in smoke after Crystal Palace pulled out of the deal.
Liverpool could sell Joe Gomez
Leoni’s injury means Arne Slot has only got Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez available as fit centre-back options - as well as reserve defender Rhys Williams.
But with Konate out of contract in 2026, it would be no surprise to see the club add another centre-back either in January or else next summer.
Outgoings however could ALSO become apparent with Gomez potentially the next player to leave.
The 28-year-old was heavily linked with AC Milan towards the end of the summer transfer window - coming close to making the move to San Siro on deadline day.
AC Milan continue to show interest in Joe Gomez
The England man - out of contract in 2027 - stayed put as Hughes was unable to source an alternative.
According to Calciomercato, the Rossoneri could come back in January for the long-serving Liverpool defender. The Milanese giants have made a great start to the Serie A season under Max Allegri - and are seeking to add to their defensive depth.
“AC Milan continues to show interest in Joe Gomez: in the final days of the last transfer window, the English defender was on the verge of a move to Italy” the report reads.
Milan question Liverpool's 'poor use' of Gomez
“The deal fell through due to Liverpool's inability to find a suitable replacement before the transfer window closed.
“AC Milan are reportedly ready to make a comeback in January, capitalizing on the Merseyside club's poor use of the 1997-born defender.”
Gomez has managed only half an hour of Premier League football thus far - playing for around 20 minutes against Bournemouth on matchday two and managing around 10 against Arsenal.
It would be a surprise if he signed a new deal given how little football he’s playing - meaning Liverpool are running out of time to make any money on Gomez in the transfer market.
