Ifeanyi Ndukwe cannot play this season
Iraola has been using Mor Talla Ndiaye - an untested 18-year-old from Senegal - at centre-back owing to the absence of Virgil van Dijk from the tour.
He slotted in alongside Ifeanyi Ndukwe - also 18 - on tour but there are issues around the Austrian too. Ndukwe has completed a £2.5m deal to join from Austria Vienna following a stellar FIFA under-17 World Cup campaign last winter.
But Liverpool are not able to count on the young defender for the 2026/27 season owing to a work permit hiccup.
Loan offers pouring in for Ndukwe
Instead Richard Hughes - the sporting director - will have to find a club to take Ndukwe on loan for the campaign ahead. According to a report in Heute in the player’s homeland teams are now QUEUING up to sign Ndukwe on loan.
“One thing is certain: there is significant interest in the Austrian talent,” the report reads.
“Several clubs from Portugal, Spain, and the Netherlands are reportedly interested in Ndukwe.
“A return to Austria is also considered a possible option.”

Liverpool could benefit from Ndukwe loan
Liverpool have benefitted in the past from sending promising young talents out on loan - such as Conor Bradley and in more recent times Lewis Koumas and James McConnell.
Clearly the original plan would have been to keep Ndukwe in and around the first team for the season but that has now been derailed.
The good news is a full season of first-team football stands to benefit Ndukwe very well before returning next summer. By then Gomez and Van Dijk will be out of contract and he could be set for a long, extended run in the first team.
