Darwin Nunez hasn’t been who many at the club thought he could. Liverpool paid a lot of money to sign him from Benfica but he’s never really kicked on.

The Uruguayan is just too unreliable to be the Reds’ regular no.9, while Diogo Jota can’t stay fit. Liverpool are unable to rely on either and so they’ll try to sign someone for next season.

Some incredible names have been linked. Alexander Isak is probably the most exciting after yet another incredible season at Newcastle United.

Julian Alvarez is another on the list, while Hugo Ekitike could join from Eintracht Frankfurt. Or maybe Joao Pedro. Or Benjamin Sesko. Perhaps the Reds take a chance on Liam Delap. There’s always Jonathan David on a free transfer, too.

Liverpool have lots of options, then, but which one do they choose? Maybe it isn’t just one.

Liverpool’s striker hunt

The Daily Mail say Liverpool will look to sign ‘at least’ one forward this summer. The implication is that they could actually end up signing more, depending on different factors.

One of those will undoubtedly be if Liverpool sell other forwards. Jota could depart, as could Luis Diaz. The latter would probably necessitate a new winger, rather than striker.

It’s also unlikely that Liverpool would sign both Isak and Alvarez, for instance. Both would want assurances that they’re the first-choice option up top.

But a winger and a striker as the two forwards? That’s entirely possible. As is bringing in someone like Liam Delap and Jonathan David - two lower-profile options on bargain fees.

Liverpool do have options like this, though. It could see a true transformation of the attacking line, especially if departures do happen.

And so with all the talk of a new striker at Liverpool, it’s definitely possible that the hunt is bigger than that. It could be the more than one arrive and while it’s hard to believe it could be more than two, who knows?

The Reds are flexible this summer and pushing to do something special. Multiple forwards could well be the way to do just that.
