Atalanta among THREE clubs who want deal for Liverpool forward

Liverpool have been dealing with a selection crisis in attack during recent fixtures.

Mohamed Salah is away at the Africa Cup of Nations while Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak have been suffering from injuries. The Dutchman is now back and available for selection but it looks like Isak could be missing for up to three months.

With so many forward unavailable Arne Slot was perhaps left with no choice over the weekend other than to start Federico Chiesa.

Chiesa facing uncertain future

Although he’s a fan favourite the Italian has been unable to convince his head coach of his merits - largely having to settle for bench roles over the past couple of seasons.

But the 28-year-old got his chance against Wolves on Saturday - playing 61 minutes for the Premier League champions before being replaced.

It must be admitted that it wasn’t the £12m man’s best outing - with no shots and 10 possessions lost.

Liverpool fans got their wish in seeing the winger start but on the evidence of the weekend Chiesa has got a lot of work ahead of him to gain prominence in Slot’s thoughts.

Chiesa doesn't want to leave

The Italy international remains undeterred however in his plan to remain at Anfield - with the former Juventus star holding a contract until 2028.

According to Corriere dello Sport he remains focused on remaining on Merseyside - but the paper also acknowledges interest in Chiesa from elsewhere.

The report names Atalanta as one of THREE interested in teams in Chiesa ahead of the winter transfer window opening on Thursday.

“Federico Chiesa hasn't changed his mind: his goal remains to continue his adventure at Liverpool,” the report reads.

“Three clubs, including Atalanta, are pursuing him, but so far there have been no real offers from the striker.”

Chiesa suffered a poor season on an individual level during 2024/25 even though Liverpool won the Premier League. He was unable to force his way into Arne Slot’s plans and at one stage looked destined for the scrapheap.

But he has fought back well - registering two Premier League goals this season - and being called upon more often by his manager.

Still sporting director Richard Hughes will have a decision to make if an attractive offer is made for the forward in January or else next summer.
