Game over as Liverpool midfielder admits it's time to leave
Liverpool have got big changes coming down the track this summer in midfield.
The latest midfield name associated with an Anfield arrival is Morocco international Ayyoub Bouaddi. The 18-year-old joins the likes of Alex Scott, Adam Wharton and Aurelien Tchouameni on Richard Hughes’ wishlist.
And in order for new faces in midfield to be accommodated there are going to have to be some sacrifices.
Liverpool tipped to sell midfielders
We could see a move concluded for Alexis Mac Allister - with the Argentina international out of contract in 2028 and no agreement close over a new deal.
But the most pressing issue is undoubtedly Curtis Jones. The 25-year-old has been linked with the exit since January - when Inter Milan and Tottenham came to the fore for his signature.
He stayed put through to the end of the season - but with a contract expiring in 2027 this will be Liverpool’s last chance to cash in.
Jones considers his Liverpool career over
A report in Caught Offside is now claiming that Jones considers his career at Anfield as OVER - and previously it has been reported that he had already agreed a five-year contract with Inter.
“‘Incredibly skilled’ Liverpool player considers his time at Anfield as over,” the report reads.
Right now the deal is at a stalemate as the Italian champions will not meet Richard Hughes’ £35m asking price. Jones is in limbo - with Premier League interest said to be coming from Nottingham Forest, Spurs once again and Arsenal.
And a contender from Italy in the form of Juventus could also come into the reckoning.
Jones could be set for shock Juventus move
“Jones has interest in leaving, but Liverpool will not be pushed into accepting a cut-price deal,” the report reads.
“Juventus entering the race adds another layer to the story.
“The Turin club are also watching the situation, although financial restrictions could make it difficult for them to match Liverpool’s valuation.”
Juve missed out on UEFA Champions League football for next season - which in turn is having a knock-on effect for their transfer business.
The Turin giants are having to cut their cloth accordingly - meaning satisfying a £35m demand for Jones - as well as servicing a hefty contract - may be beyond their financial reach.
That won’t do much to satisfy Jones - who considers his days as a Liverpool player to be over.
