Transfer deal for Liverpool midfielder will be too good to turn down

There are big changes coming to Liverpool this summer.

Experienced leaders like Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah are leaving the club. And there is plenty of uncertainty over the fate of certain midfielders too.

Alexis Mac Allister for example is not in contract talks but his current deal expires in 2028. If no new agreement is reached then it is possible that the Argentina FIFA World Cup winner will depart.

And what about Curtis Jones?

The 25-year-old has got into the team in recent weeks - albeit at right-back - and has been unable to nail down a berth in his preferred midfield position.

With his deal expiring in 2027 Richard Hughes is reaching the last chance saloon over a renewal.

And if the Premier League champions don’t have plans to tie down the Scouser for an extended deal then this summer will represent their last chance to bank a decent fee.

Game over for Curtis Jones

Even more alluring is the England international’s status as a homegrown academy product - meaning any fee brought in will go down as pure profit.

Fans would not like to see Jones leave - being the only local lad in the team - but needs must. He is not all of a sudden going to become a valued first-team midfielder under Slot and would be forgiven for seeking out new opportunities.

Now it’s been revealed by Paul Joyce in the Times that two more clubs are on the trail of the talented playmaker ahead of the summer transfer window opening.

Inter Milan and Aston Villa come forward for Jones

Inter Milan also tried their luck over Jones in January - seeking an initial loan deal. And talk has built up in recent weeks regarding Aston Villa - who are seeking to strengthen their midfield ranks.

“The Serie A champions-elect Inter could yet return, there is talk of Aston Villa monitoring him, and at that point Liverpool would have to decide whether it is worth selling him,” the report reads.

Without a new deal under his belt it’s going to be hard to see how Jones stays at Anfield. There is little chance of Richard Hughes and FSG letting him run his deal down and therefore an acceptable bid will see him leave.

That will be hard for supporters to take - who would love to see Jones stay and become an established star. But the money may well be too good to turn down and other sides can give Jones what he’s craved most in his career - regular first-team football.
