Liverpool are set to make big midfield alterations this summer.

There is uncertainty around several of their midfielders - including Curtis Jones, Alexis Mac Allister and Stefan Bajcetic. Jones, 25, is a target for Inter Milan and Nottingham Forest - and if no new contract is agreed then expect him to be moved on.

Macca, meanwhile, is back on the radar for Real Madrid with the Spanish capital side set to sell Eduardo Camavinga.

And although Bajcetic is a tier below the other two in terms of his experience he too could be sold with Sevilla now coming into the reckoning for a bargain deal.

Talks held for Joao Gomes

It’s now being reported in Brazil that Liverpool as well as Manchester United are seeking to take advantage of a breakdown in the deal that was supposed to take Joao Gomes to Atletico Madrid.

The Brazil international, 25, was on the brink of joining Diego Simeone’s deal before an 11th-hour hitch.

That failure to land the Wolves man could now open the door to a Premier League bid - with Liverpool reaching out to the Old Gold over the terms of a potential deal.

Joao Gomes deal worth around £38m

“Both Liverpool and Manchester United contacted Wolverhampton to inquire about pricing and business models,” the report reads.

“Atlético Madrid had agreed to buy him for 45 million euros.”

Liverpool have been linked with Joao Gomes on several occasions in the past - stretching back to his days with Flamengo.

They could be finally set to get their man for a decent fee of around £38m too following Wolves’ drop into the Championship.

João Gomes: Situation summary

João Gomes is a combative, box‑to‑box midfielder who brings bite, intensity and ball-winning to the centre of the pitch, combining aggressive pressing with the ability to carry the ball and connect defence to attack.

Nicknamed “Pitbull” in Brazil, he thrives on duels, tackles and interceptions, then drives forward at speed when space opens, offering a Douglas Luiz‑style profile with Premier League‑ready physicality and engine.

Contractually, Gomes is tied to Wolves on a long-term deal until 2030 with an option for a further year, signed in April 2025 and without a release clause, which in theory gives Wolves strong leverage over any sale.

However, with Wolves relegated and needing to reshape their squad, both he and fellow Brazilian André are viewed internally as likely departures this summer, turning that long contract into a tool to maximise fee rather than a guarantee he stays.
