Andoni Iraola is rubbing his eyes: Three new signings are coming
Andoni Iraola has now been installed as Liverpool head coach.
The 43-year-old Spaniard has come on board from Bournemouth - where he spent three years improving his reputation.
A poor second season in charge accounted for Arne Slot - whose spell at Anfield was curtailed one year before his contract expired.
Slot, 47, was extensively involved in planning transfer activities ahead of the summer window alongside Richard Hughes and the rest of the Reds’ recruitment team.
And now a report in Football Insider has confirmed that the outgoing Premier League champions will be sticking to their transfer plans - and laid out the three positions which will need to be improved this summer.
Three new signings coming to Liverpool
“The Reds want to bolster their options with the additions of a new left-back, a right-sided winger and a holding midfielder, with the recruitment team already working on finding the correct fits for those roles,” the report reads.
A left-back is required owing to the departure of Andy Robertson. Milos Kerkez is expected to be first choice long into the future but will need a reliable deputy.
Daniel Svensson of Borussia Dortmund and Fulham’s Antonee Robinson are two names who have been linked in that position.
Diomande and Wharton among candidates to arrive
Of course the right-sided winger could very well be Yan Diomande - but RB Leipzig are sticking to their not-for-sale stance at the moment. Others such as Rayan or Bradley Barcola could therefore come into focus.
Liverpool have got a pressing need for midfield reinforcements.
Adam Wharton, Aurelien Tchouameni, Alex Scott and Lamine Camara are reportedly among the names under consideration.
Exits will be required and Liverpool are going to wave goodbye to Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate and Robertson among others.
We could see outgoing deals concluded for Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones from the midfield while Federico Chiesa looks nailed on to move back to Italy.
Just a year on from a £450m spending spree the outgoing Premier League champions are remodelling their squad once again.
