Liverpool to respond on bold offer, this is the right move
Liverpool are to give their response to a bold offer. This is the right decision, ultimately.
We're running out of time before the start of the Premier League season and the transfer window officially has just one more month to run. Surely, then, Liverpool should have their squad sorted?
Not even close! Andoni Iraola doesn't even know which players are staying, let alone who's arriving, and we imagine this group will look quite a lot different by the start of September.
One situation that simply needs sorting is that of Curtis Jones. The Scouser has just one year remaining on his contract and Inter are heavily interested in signing him.
However, they believe any deal now should be for a reduced price. Liverpool aren't sure just how reduced that price should be, setting out an asking price of around €40m for a deal to get done.
The Guardian reports that Inter have approached Liverpool with a new offer of around €35m. It's expected that the Reds will reject that and hold strong to their valuation.
Not that their valuation is a particularly good one. Liverpool should really have Jones locked down on a long-term contract, rather than haggling over €5m as they decide just how on-the-cheap they want to lose him.
It's been remarkable mismanagement over the last few years and we do expect Jones will leave the club. Perhaps it's this month or maybe in January. Or maybe Inter simply wait to sign him for nothing next summer.
Liverpool, though, will attempt to get at least €40m out of it.
