Liverpool target will complete move within DAYS

Liverpool are less than a week away from the January transfer window formally opening.

Mohamed Salah's future is largely secure, although it's hard to know whether his stance on a potential move to Saudi Arabia has changed over the last week. As such, he's still in the balance.

A centre-back is also seen as being integral to Liverpool's success throughout the latter part of the season, especially since Giovanni Leoni's ACL injury came out of nowhere back in September.

But the recent news that Alexander Isak has broken his leg has led to the increased likelihood of the club signing a winger to replace Luis Diaz. The current target is Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo.

The latest reports are claiming that he's now just days away from leaving the South coast.

City close in on Semenyo

According to Sami Mokbel at BBC Sport, the Ghanaian forward's move to Manchester City is close.

In an update on Football Focus on Saturday, he said: "I think this one [move] has the potential to be the biggest, certainly financially, of the January window.

"At the moment, Manchester City are in pole position and every indication that we've had so far... has been that he will go there. Bournemouth are quite keen for him to stay until January 10th... they've got games against Brentford, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal.

"But my understanding is that Semenyo wants this deal done rapidly and he wants to move to Manchester City basically on January 1."

It's also added that the 'formal steps' of the deal are expected to take place in the next 48 hours.

Unfortunately for the Reds, it appears as though Semenyo is a no-go. The player has made his choice and so long as there are no technical hiccups, everything should go to plan for his move.

This will mean that Liverpool will have to move onto other targets, and given Slot's recent suggestion that pace is paramount while praising Jeremy Frimpong after the club's 2-1 win over Wolves, it might be that targets like Yankuba Minteh, Yan Diomande or Karim Adeyemi are prioritised moving forward.

Furthermore, we may see the club look to sign whoever Manchester City will have to sell in order to financially facilitate Semenyo's move. Pep Guardiola's squad is already quite saturated, with Jeremy Doku, Rayan Cherki, Phil Foden, Savinho, Omar Marmoush, and Oscar Bobb hoping to get minutes.

At the very least, however, Liverpool now know where they stand with Semenyo and if the intention is there to do some business in January, the club's efforts can now be concentrated elsewhere.
