Liverpool star confirms it: He's the sacrifice for bold new signing

One Liverpool star has essentially confirmed that he’ll be the sacrifice for a bold new signing. A big, big decision from Liverpool.

Alexis Mac Allister has spoken out on his situation at Liverpool and it's an interesting one to say the least. The midfielder has been conspicuous all year as the only one of the senior midfield group who hasn't had a new contract.

Though, of course, Curtis Jones's new contract came with Inter. Liverpool sold the Scouser as he'd just entered the final year, but he was also notably absent from talks about a new deal.

Both Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai got new contracts, however. Mac Allister, who arrived at the club at the same time they did and played as significant a role in the title win as any, has not received a new contract.

In fact, he hasn't even had talks.

The Argentine has now spoken out about it. He's pointed out the new contracts for his teammates and importantly claimed that he was told by the club that there wouldn't be a new contract for him.

"I received the news that the club wasn't in a position to offer me a new contract which makes me sad. The fans don't need to worry, I will give 100% until last day I'm here," he said.

Alexis Mac Allister for Lamine Camara

Liverpool have been heavily linked with Lamine Camara in the last week. Journalist Ben Jacobs drove that, claiming on deadline day that the Reds had contacted both the player and AS Monaco to let them know they'd move for him in 2027.

Why didn't they do that in 2026? Jacobs claims it's because they couldn't offload Mac Allister this summer. It makes sense - Liverpool wouldn't just need extra money for Camara but they also need to free up a foreign player spot.

Selling a midfielder in order to do that makes the most sense. Camara would be taking minutes away from them anyway, after all.

And Mac Allister has effectively confirmed here that he's the sacrifice. He doesn't know how much longer he has at the club, while he's also stated that there were indeed chances to leave over the summer.

Above all, the fact Liverpool aren't negotiating a new contract tells us everything: they see Mac Allister as the most expendable of the lot. If Camara is to come in, he'll be the one to make way.

And that really could mean January.
