A fair number of Liverpool's players have their contracts expiring in June 2027.

Virgil van Dijk, Alisson and Kostas Tsimikas are just a few of the players who look likely to leave at the end of the current campaign.

Obviously, allowing all of these people to exit L4 for nothing would be a bad move for the Reds, especially after what's happened over the last few years.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate are the two main examples of high-profile players exiting.

And, while their departures were expected, that still doesn't mean that it's what fans wanted to happen.

So, as we edge closer to the January transfer window, talk of what lies ahead in the future of some Liverpool players has been rife with the Reds' stance on one player now being made clear.

David Lynch says Alexis Mac Allister is 'unlikely' to sign a new Liverpool contract

Alexis Mac Allister is another player who's future has been spoken about a lot.

The Argentinian was easily one of Liverpool's worst midfielders last term and, thanks to his poor performances, fans lost their love for him.

However, after the 2026 World Cup, something just seemed to click and, from then on, it's felt like he's been their best central midfielder.

This has obviously made fans rather conflicted about where his future should lie as his deal is set to run out in June 2028.

Of course, that means Liverpool can still get a fee for him in one of the two upcoming transfer windows but, since his deal will be close to expiry, the fee that they receive will be a fraction of what he's actually worth.

And, thanks to an update from David Lynch via Anfield Index, that seems to be the way that things are heading.

"Liverpool told Lamine Camara to hang on and it’s unlikely Alexis Mac Allister will sign a new deal," he said.

Liverpool must have a replacement lined up for Alexis Mac Allister before they sell him

As mentioned, Mac Allister has been integral to Liverpool's first-team squad this season.

The Argentinian has easily been their best central midfielder and, luckily for Iraola, he's taken to the double pivot system like a duck to water.

Obviously, after extending the contracts of Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch last season, they're the ones who Liverpool see their future being built around.

Or, they were last season, at least.

However, this term, each time they've played together in the double pivot, they've rarely ever played well and have often made mistakes which have led to goals.

So, if Mac Allister does leave in January or in the summer, Liverpool must ensure that they have a replacement lined up for him.

Because, if they don't they're going to be massively lacking in depth and will have no hope of seeing the rest of the season out.

Here's hoping that some movement is made around the Reds' midfield department soon.
