Liverpool set to replace faltering star in January

Liverpool’s start to life under Andoni Iraola has been somewhat disappointing.

The Reds find themselves in ninth place after six games, behind Everton, Leeds and Hull City, having only won twice in the league so far.

Although Iraola’s side have struggled to find consistency anywhere on the pitch, one of the most frustrating positions has been right-back.

With Conor Bradley still sidelined by an injury he picked up in January, and Jeremie Frimpong failing to impress at any point this season, Ronald Araujo has found himself as the makeshift first-choice on the right side of Liverpool’s backline.

As Iraola’s issues pile up concerns over Frimpong’s ability could lead to a January transfer.

Reds ready to replace Frimpong already

Since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025, Frimpong has failed to nail down a starting place in Liverpool’s XI.

When Trent Alexander-Arnold, the club’s previous long-time starter, left the club weeks before Frimpong was signed many assumed that the Dutchman would be the automatic replacement.

Even under Arne Slot the 25-year-old couldn’t cement his place, with Bradley, Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai all playing significant minutes at right-back.

Now, after only one full season, the club are reportedly willing to move on from Frimpong and the Dutchman could be replaced as soon as this winter.

That’s according to a report from Football Insider, which claims the recruitment team at Anfield have now begun looking for a replacement.

The report states that other issues with Iraola’s squad could push right-back recruitment down the list of priorities, especially if Bradley returns to training before the New Year, so a deal for Frimpong’s replacement may have to wait until the summer.

There has also been some reported interest in the Dutchman which could lead to an early departure, in which case an addition at fullback would jump to top priority.

An exit isn’t guaranteed this winter but, with other clubs already interested and Liverpool ready to move on, Frimpong’s days at Anfield could be numbered.
