Liverpool must hijack Man City deal, they’d be silly to let this go
Liverpool have become rivals with Manchester City over the last few years.
Even though both clubs have had stages where they've massively underperformed, over the last few years, they've turned into two of the best teams in the world and have fought for almost every trophy against one another.
Now that the Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp era is over, it's unclear how things will end up panning out and whether either of the clubs will get back to the peak of their powers again.
Indeed, City have already spent £116 million on Elliott Anderson so they're clearly planning a run for the title this term but, since Liverpool could also end up adding a fair few new players to their squad, both teams could find themselves at the top of the table again.
But, since both clubs need players in the same positions, it feels like they're going to go head-to-head a few times before the season even starts.
And, at the moment, it feels like the Cityzens are the ones leading the way with Enzo Maresca's men set to embarrass Liverpool once again.
Manchester City want to sign Ibrahima Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain
One of the main areas Liverpool need to upgrade this term is their right-wing.
The Anfield outfit have lost Mohamed Salah and, since it feels like Federico Chiesa and Harvey Elliott both already have a foot out of the door, they're going to be seriously lacking depth in that area of the pitch.
Indeed, Victor Munoz can be played there if needed but, if the Reds want to challenge for the title, they need to have a natural right-winger ready and waiting to fill the void left by Salah.
Several options have already been mentioned but, one of those could now be taken away from Liverpool as, thanks to a fresh update from Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, Man City are now being linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain's Ibrahim Mbaye.
"Manchester City has added Ibrahim Mbaye to its list of players being tracked for this summer transfer window," he wrote via his personal X account.
"Several major European clubs, including Tottenham, Aston Villa, Leipzig, and Dortmund, are also closely following the 18-year-old winger.
"Ibrahim Mbaye wants to leave PSG this summer, while the Parisian club is also open to a transfer."
Liverpool can't let Manchester City sign Ibrahim Mbaye from under their noses
Mbaye may not be the PSG winger that every Liverpool fan wants but, he's the one that they need.
Most Liverpool fans would probably say that they want the Reds to bring Bradley Barcola in, especially since he could be looking for a way out of the Parc des Princes this summer.
However, since he's only 24 years old and is already a top-class player, his asking price is going to be astronomical and, after Liverpool's spending last summer, it doesn't feel wise for them to spend another £100 million + on a player.
This is where Mbaye comes in. He may only be 18 years old but, in the games he's played for Luis Enrique's men this term, he's been impressive.
The attacker has played on both wings for PSG this season and has featured 30 times across all competitions.
During those appearances. he's bagged himself five goal contributions which may not seem like a lot but, since he's only played 1152 minutes of football, it's fairly impressive.
The report from Aouna doesn't mention a fee but, since he's not a world-beater just yet, he's bound to be much cheaper than someone such as Barcola or Yan Diomande.
And, since PSG are signing a couple more wingers this summer, his pathway to their first-team will start to be blocked off.
Mbaye would obviously be an out-there signing for Andoni Iraola and Richard Hughes but, with the Reds' current transfer strategy in mind, it's a move that makes a lot of sense for everyone involved which is why the Reds' can't let City sign him ahead of them.
