Liverpool make initial approach for impressive Ligue 1 star
Liverpool have made their initial approach for a Ligue 1 star. This could be the start of it.
RMC Sport reports that Liverpool have inquired about Paris FC star Moustapha Mbow. Mbow has a contract running until 2028 but there's plenty of interest in him this summer.
That interest is largely from the Premier League, too. The report mentions Crystal Palace, Fulham, and West Ham, while saying that the Reds have made contact.
However, Liverpool's interest is thought to be a little more background than the rest. They're monitoring the situation after the initial approach, presumably seeing how things land before deciding whether to move.
Though, it could also hinge on what Ibrahima Konate decides. The Frenchman is out of contract this summer and still hasn't renewed.
It may be that Mbow is viewed as a potential squad replacement. At 26, he'd certainly arrive as one of the more senior options in the Reds' back line.
One to watch for the summer, then.
Mamadou Mbow: Situation Summary
Paris FC Performance and Stats
As of 5 May 2026, Mamadou Moustapha Mbow (commonly known as Moustapha Mbow) has become a defensive pillar for Paris FC following their promotion to Ligue 1. The 26-year-old Senegalese centre-back has made 31 appearances this season, logging over 2,700 minutes and maintaining an average FotMob rating of 6.93. Standing at 6ft 4in, Mbow has impressed with his aerial dominance and long-ball distribution, notably recording 18 clearances in a standout performance against AS Monaco in April. Most recently, he played the full 90 minutes in a 6.99-rated display against Stade Brestois on 3 May, though he picked up his fifth yellow card of the campaign.
Transfer Speculation and Premier League Interest
Mbow’s consistent top-flight form has triggered significant interest from England. Reports from 5 May 2026 indicate that West Ham United have tabled a formal offer for the defender as they battle to avoid relegation. Liverpool are also credited with strong interest, with manager Arne Slot reportedly inquiring about Mbow to bolster a backline that has conceded 47 goals this term. Other suitors including Ipswich Town, Fulham, and Lille are also monitoring the player, who is valued as a high-potential addition for clubs seeking physical presence in central defence.
International Standing
Having previously featured for Senegal's U20 side, Mbow is currently pushing for a senior recall ahead of the 2026 World Cup this June. Senegal manager Pape Thiaw has reportedly been tracking his progress closely. Mbow has publicly stated that he "thinks about the World Cup every day," and his inclusion in the Teranga Lions' squad is considered a strong possibility given his current trajectory in France.
