Liverpool are on the brink of triggering a release clause after entering talks with a player.

It appears Liverpool aren’t wasting time finding deals. They’ve been heavily linked with a deal for Samuel Martinez in Colombia and now they’ve apparently pushed forward on a deal for Kennet Eichhorn.

Eichhorn is only 16 but has already caught the eye with Hertha BSC. He’s now fully expected to leave the club in the summer, or at least agree on a deal elsewhere.

Florian Plettenberg claims Liverpool have held ‘concrete talks’ over a deal for the German. His release clause stands at around €10m and the Reds are very interested.

However, given Eichhorn is German and good, Bayern Munich are also very keen. In fact, it’s reported widely that they’re incredibly close to signing the teenager.

We imagine that’s true. Liverpool can’t actually sign under 18 players from outside of England, meaning Eichhorn would have to wait quite some time before making the move.

Bayern can offer him an immediate deal - something that will surely tip things in their favour. So Liverpool are making a late play here but it’s difficult to believe it’s a successful one.

Kennet Eichhorn: Situation Summary

Hertha BSC Breakout and Stats

As of 25 May 2026, Kennet Eichhorn has completed a historic breakout season with Hertha BSC. The 16-year-old German defensive midfielder made 17 senior appearances this term, recording a goal in both the 2. Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal. Composed and highly intelligent on the ball, Eichhorn shattered records by becoming the youngest debutant in 2. Bundesliga history in August, alongside becoming the youngest goalscorer in DFB-Pokal history in December.

Transfer Poker and Release Clause

Eichhorn’s sensational emergence has ignited a massive European transfer battle ahead of the summer window, especially after Hertha failed to achieve promotion. The wonderkid possesses a highly attractive release clause valued between €10 million and €12 million. Sky Germany reports that Liverpool have recently entered the race very concretely, holding direct talks with his representatives. They face stiff competition from Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and Manchester City.
