Liverpool have possible deal to sign £60m Man City star
Liverpool won't sign Yan Diomande. They do have a possible deal for a star who has outperformed the Ivorian, however.
Yan Diomande has rejected Liverpool and that leaves them in a difficult spot. The Reds desperately need a new winger but the market beyond the Ivorian is quite awful.
Look back on the 2025/26 campaign and few wingers matched Diomande's value. As teenagers, only really Lamine Yamal did and we promise you he isn't moving to Liverpool.
The likes of Said El Mala are worth trying for, but a little less proven than Diomande. Or at least, look a little less ready to move to the Premier League for an immediate impact.
So maybe the answer is to look beyond last season. Liverpool could instead look at some players who showed something special a couple of years ago and may simply be sleeping giants.
One of those players is at Manchester City: Savinho (Or Savio, we're not actually sure what he prefers). The Brazilian has been massively disappointing since moving to England and finished last season with one goal and one assist.
The Daily Mail now reports that he's available for over £60m and as ridiculous as it sounds, Liverpool should pay it. There's an incredible player there and one who could well end up being a better option than Diomande.
Go back to his own season when was 19 and Savinho actually outperformed the Ivorian. He scored nine and assisted 10 in La Liga with Girona as the most important player at his club.
He had even more responsibility than Diomande, who shares a lot of the attacking burden with Christoph Baumgartner (13 goals and eight assists last season). Follow this logically and there's little reason why Diomande couldn't have the same regression as Savinho.
Or, inversely, why Savinho couldn't recapture the form that he's proven before. He might actually be the dream answer, if all went to plan: scores, creates, dribbles, can play on both flanks.
£60m would be a bit of a steal, given RB Leipzig want twice that for Diomande - it's just a risk. But one that might be worth taking.
Man City want to sell in order to fund more signings and there's a real chance that they're making a mistake. One Liverpool could capitalise on to get a fantastic player.
