Liverpool have an incredible wonderkid right-back, he is the next Trent

Liverpool's right-back situation could be solved very soon.

It's quite remarkable that well over 12 months after Trent Alexander-Arnold has left the Reds the club are still in the same situation.

Three transfer windows have passed and yet Liverpool are still yet to replace the former no.66.

It means once again the conversation has shifted to Dominik Szoboszlai playing as a right-back. After the first few games of the campaign under Andoni Iraola and Jeremie Frimpong struggling to impress, the Hungarian has become a prime candidate to play the position.

Now Liverpool signed a long contract extension with Szoboszlai on the basis that he would play in central midfield.

That promise could be broken. Simply because Liverpool have no other choice but to play him there.

Liverpool's worrying right-back options

Right now the squad boasts just Frimpong as a 'natural' right-back but even he is more comfortable as a wing-back which is where Xabi Alonso deployed him at Bayer Leverkusen.

Joe Gomez could play the position but he is injured, although he isn't far from returning to action. For how long he will subsequently be available for though is moot. His injury track-record of late has not been great.

It's why Ronald Araujo was also brought in. However, with Giovanni Leoni still recovering from his injury even though Araujo can play as a right-back, he's been tasked with providing cover for Jeremy Jacquet and Virgil van Dijk.

The Reds are placing a lot of faith in Conor Bradley returning to injury but he's still a long way away in his recovery.

Thankfully, there could soon be other options for Iraola to choose from.

Meet Liverpool's next right-back sensation - Lewis John-Charles

A double barrel surname, a right-back from Liverpool's academy. The comparisons to Alexander-Arnold are easy with John-Charles.

And indeed the youngster is a name to watch. He recently caught the eye for Liverpool's U16 side in Tokyo playing against the J.League select and exhibiting the speed and dynamism needed for Iraola's system.

John-Charles also participated in training with the U21s and some first-team players at the beginning of the summer and he is a player to keep a close eye on.

His style of play is different to Trent. John-Charles is more of a dynamic full-back who bombs forward and who excels in one vs one situations defensively.

He will put his body on the line and anticipates defensive situations very well.

Recently, he made his debut for the club's U17 team in the Premier League Cup. Ultimately, he looks like an incredible talent, and someone who is also clearly very highly rated by Liverpool.

So, it's worth remembering his name.
