Liverpool given green light to sign £38m star after rivals pivot

As per usual, Liverpool have left a lot of their deals until the final 48 hours of the transfer window.

Before the 2026-27 window even opened, fans knew that the Anfield outfit were in desperate need of at least five or six players to get them back on track.

However, everyone in the Reds' recruitment department seems to have have only just realised that now.

They've spent far too much time negotiating deals and, if they're not careful, they could end up with an even weaker squad than they ended the 2025-26 season with, especially with how many of their players are still being linked with exits.

But, now that Liverpool have finally realised that change is needed, it's strange that one of their rivals have pivoted away from one of their targets.

Chelsea now have Manu Kone as their top priority to replace Enzo Fernandez

One of the main problem areas among Liverpool's ranks this season has been their midfield.

Even though Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai have both recently signed long-term deals with the Reds, they have already proven that they can't play together in Andoni Iraola's double pivot system.

Each of them want to push forward far too much and, even though Alexis Mac Allister is another option among their ranks, he didn't perform much better.

In fact, during Saturday's 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest, Trey Nyoni's cameo was actually the best performance that any of Liverpool's central midfielders put in.

This is obviously a massive concern which is why the latest update from journalist Santi Aouna about Chelsea's transfer plans should be welcomed with open arms by Liverpool's fanbase.

"Chelsea have made Manu Koné their priority to replace Enzo Fernández should the Argentine leave for Manchester City," he shared via X.

Lamine Camara is the exact type of player that Liverpool need to sign

The fact that Lamine Camara is only likely to cost around €45 million (£38 million) is crazy.

Liverpool have just agreed a €35 million fee for Lucca Brughmans who is an 18-year-old goalkeeper with only 15 senior games under his belt.

Indeed, he's featured in Belgium's youth ranks an awful lot but, when you look at Camara and Brughmans, it's hard to see why there's only a €10 million difference in their valuations.

Camara is one of AS Monaco's best players with Filipe Luis often caught praising him after their games.

However, thanks to their financial situation, they need to make a sale before the window slams shut on September 1.

The Senegal international has been linked with a Premier League move for a while now with Chelsea the favourites to sign him.

However, now that they're eyeing Manu Kone instead, it certainly feels like the Reds now have a free run at the midfielder which, at this point in the window, could prove vital to their season.
