Liverpool have reportedly received a massive update on Ibrahima Konate. It certainly isn't good news.

And that's a massive shame, given the pair were unquestionably two of Liverpool's best players on the night. The extent of each injury has been a mystery, too.

Arne Slot wasn't willing to share an injury update on either in his Thursday press conference. Maybe that's because he legitimately didn't know - or maybe it's because Liverpool face Manchester City on Monday.

Keeping the fitness of the squad a secret would only be an advantage.

However, it appears Liverpool haven't been able to keep Konate's status a secret. They've reportedly had some hugely negative news on that front.

Ibrahima Konate injury update

DaveOCKOP reports that Ibrahima Konate will be out for five to six weeks. It's a knee injury and one that clearly has a level of severity to it.

Konate would miss the entire Christmas period here, and likely wouldn't return until early 2025. Of course, that depends on this information being accurate.

We have no reason to doubt it - and we're already wondering how Arne Slot will handle things. Konate has been sensational this season, after all.

Sunday sees the biggest game of the season - one that, in all likelihood, will remain the biggest no matter what's to come. Liverpool can open an eleven-point gap ahead of City with a win.

But they'll likely need to do it without one of their key stars.
