Liverpool midfielder seals transfer fate with social media post

Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah caused shockwaves with his social media activity over the weekend.

The 33-year-old aimed a thinly-veiled barb at head coach Arne Slot in a move that has split opinion. Many Reds’ fans are on Salah’s side following a poor season under Slot while much of the media establishment has turned against the Egyptian King.

It would be fascinating to know what the prevailing feeling is in the Liverpool dressing room. But according to social media activity over the last few days Salah has plenty of allies who see things the same way as he does.

Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai, Hugo Ekitike, Andy Robertson and Jeremie Frimpong, Ibrahima Konaté, Ryan Gravenberch, Giovanni Leoni, Calvin Ramsay and Wataru Endo are among those who have ‘liked’ the post.

Even former Reds like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luis Diaz, Roberto Firmino and Jordan Henderson, Darwin Nunez and Jarell Quansah have weighed in.

Curtis Jones seals Liverpool fate

And one other player who could well have sealed his Liverpool exit by commenting with an “applause” emoji is Curtis Jones.

The homegrown midfielder has been outspoken about slipping standards under Slot this term - particularly after a Champions League trouncing against Dutch champions PSV.

With a contract extending to 2027 - and no new deal on the horizon - Sunday could well be the Scouser’s last game for the club.

Facing Brentford in the final game of the Premier League season at Anfield Liverpool still have work to do to get over the line and qualify for the Champions League.

And after that it looks like Jones will be on his way.

Inter Milan want Curtis Jones

Despite positive statistics the 25-year-old has simply been unable to convince Slot to start him on a regular basis this term. The England international has been in the team in recent weeks - but only as a stopgap right-back.

Accordingly he would be keen to move on and secure regular first-team football in midfield elsewhere. Inter Milan are once again knocking on the door for Jones - according to Paul Joyce in the Times - and Liverpool would do a deal for around £35m.

Parting of the ways looks inevitable

The club see Conor Gallagher’s move to Tottenham from Atletico Madrid in January as the benchmark and rate Jones even above his fellow England midfielder.

Jones’ endorsement of Salah’s post can be taken as an indication of what he thinks of Slot - as well as what is happening behind the scenes at Liverpool.

No doubt he loves the club but his dream of becoming a regular under Slot appear to be disintegrating.

With interest from Inter confirmed a parting of the ways looks inevitable and Curtis Jones will be following Reds’ idol Mo Salah out the door.
